Hmmm... Interesting.

But I'm not thinking it's going to be a lot better than a 9mm with the short barrel. The G33 I once had did clock 1250 with 125 grain Gold Dots but the Shield is .4" shorter. I think I'll just stick with the 9 in the Shield.

You guys might be right about the minimal velocity gains but I think it is a great idea if the payoff is there.

I'm interested enough to do some research on it to see if it's something I would like to try.

I was using +P+ for my SD load in my 9mm Shield but I never had access to a chronograph to see how much I was gaining over standard or +P with a short barrel.

I would rather run a 357sig than a +p+ in 9mm personally. I have not had a chance to shoot 357sig yet but on paper I like the round and have a barrel for my M&P fullsize and some test rounds to shoot.

As far as the balistics comparrison http://www.ballistics101.com/9mm.php vs http://www.ballistics101.com/357_sig.php can give you a good idea. The 357Sig still has a lead over the +p+ with most rounds but similar speeds with a few manufacturer's who are running lighter loads like Extreme Shock Ammunition Ballistics where they are getting 1220 fps from a 124gr projectile. However going to the hottest rounds on those lists (in the same weights within a grain) it looks like Grizzly's 357sig is 1500 fps and 624ftlbs vs a buffalo bore or underwood at 1300 fps and 465ftlbs at the muzzle.

I have a FS M&P 40 and bought a factory barrel off of Midway. It is the most accurate M&P I own and I have a few including a very early 45. They are known to be the king of the M&Ps as far as accuracy because they were originally built to meet .gov accuracy requirements and then went nowhere in the procurement process. But that .357 barrel will come close to shooting one hole groups at 20 yards off a bench. Maybe it's a fluke.

I would rather run .357Sig also. That's why I am interested in this. I used to carry a M&P Compact in .357Sig and really liked it. I would prefer to carry the Shield over the fullsize or compact if possible.

I just stumbled across a deal on a new Shield 40 (gen 1) online.

I need to quit looking at this stuff. I'm out of gun money right now!
