The wife and I went down to Lake Murray for a few days and had a great time. We get packed up and leave about 2 this afternoon to beat rush hour. Thankfully we were not on I35 yet when we lost a wheel on the trailer.
A lady and her sons pull up and ask if we need anything, Angel #1. I figure I'll at least need lug nuts because I have a spare. She took my wife to a boat repair shop a couple miles away. Angel #2 won't let my wife pay for the lug nuts. More about Angel #2 in a bit. Meanwhile, Angel #3 pulls up and ask if I need any help. I realize that I'm prepared for a flat but not a missing wheel. I tell him I could use another jack and a couple blocks of wood. He's says 'I'll be back in a few minutes'.
We get the spare on but I don't hav any lights. At this point I'm ready to leave the boat at Angel #2's shop and let him rewire it up and I'll sneak in payment for the lugs when I pick it up. He crawls under the boat and has my light going in a few minutes and still won't let me pay him anything!
Pretty thankful today...

You can always rob a couple lug nuts from the other wheel if worse comes to worse...
Reminds me of the joke where a guy had a flat in front an insane asylum exercise yard. Turns out his spare tire had gone down, so he rolled it down the block to a service station, aired it up, and rolled it back.

But while he was gone, someone stole his lug nuts.

He's standing there trying to figure out what to do, when a resident of the asylum (leaning on the chain link fence) says, "Hey, just take one lug nut off the other three wheels to attach the spare. Drive carefully, and that will get you to a parts store."

The guy looks at the resident and says, "That's a great idea! I thought you people were supposed to be crazy."

The resident replied, "I may be crazy, but I ain't stupid."

Glad some nice folks stopped to help ya out. :drunk2:

So you're "that" guy...

I wonder if he knew it was on fire? I certainly knew something happened. The trailer rolled over the tire throwing the trailer in the air then it came slamming back down. I thought the hitch had come undone and the boat hit the back of the truck.

In times past, our state was actually known in other parts of the country for this type of kindness as well as inherent honesty. Unfortunately society has changed and due to bad experiences, so have perceptions.

I was stationed at Hill AFB in Utah. Out for a Saturday ride with a buddy who drove an old POS truck with no fuel gauge. Yup. Ran out of gas and had to walk a couple miles to a station. I inquired about a gas can for sale and explained the situation. Younger guy in the station told me they didn't sell gas cans but they have a loaner but it required a $50 cash deposit to make sure they got it back. I didn't have $50 on me so it looked like we had come to an impasse. About that time an older gentleman asked, "Where are you from originally? That accent is familiar." I chuckle a bit (They talk funny out there ya know) "Oklahoma sir. I get that a lot."

He turns to the younger guy and says, "Give him the gas can. He'll bring it back. An Okie would never steal from you."

Ahhh if only that were true but I was still very proud and extremely thankful

It's so good to hear that there are still really good people out there.
So happy that everything worked out for you and your trailer.
