Didn't .gov also require electronic logs, significantly limit the number of hours per week a few years ago. I seem to remember that it caused significant disruptions to the freight system as terminals had been established for the earlier rules. I can say driving 40 out west at night, every available rest stop space is filled with semis.
Buddy of mine sold his rig over the elogs. He had just done an inframe overhaul and had it setup nice when they announced it. He sold out right before they went live. He wasn't going to mess with the electronic monitoring nanny state BS.

I drove long enough to figure out that they needed to nanny state the BS companies that would give me a load in OKC and tell me it had to be in San Francisco in 31 hours!!! Legal impossibility and then acted like I was out of my mind when I asked them to pay the $750 fine I received from Cali DOT!!! Officer looked at my bill of lading date and bounced it off my second log book and shut me down!! But that was my fault for not bypassing the weigh station!!!

Truck driving probably isn't a viable career choice for anyone under age 55. Autonomous truck are coming, in 10 years the truck driving jobs will evaporate.

They had a blurb on TV last night about an 89 year old man working at Sherwin-Williams Paint in OKC for SEVENTY years, he still operates a fork lift and swings and stacks 5 gallon cans full of paint. That is remarkable!
