Is this just a new production run or is the PPK coming out new and improved?

Also, weren't these supposed to start last year?

Same design as when S&W had the license with that horribly ugly beavertail. I wish they would have left it alone. Ruined the lines IMO. They have had a licensing issue with Germany and the parent company. Supposedly it’s ironed out now. This is not Walther in Germany; it’s Walther USA in Ft Smith, Arkansas. Going to be in .22lr and .380 ACP.

I knew about the licensing issue for the slides, but damn. It took them 2 years to iron that out???? Was reading over at the Walther Forum, was supposed to start production Apr-Jun 2016

And this part might be outdated info, but they were supposed to make frames to spec for the 1935 and also for the S&W models. The 1935 repro being called the PPK and the S&W version being called the PPK/S

A few months back, Walther sent a couple of reps down to Big Boys in Mustang. Had a chance to talk to them about the whole issue with the PPK and PPK/S; according to the reps I spoke with, they are going to follow the lines and blueprints from the Smith and Wesson version. They either weren’t sure or couldn’t tell me about the exact problem with the licensing and the parent company.

See, Walther was purchased by Umarex, a maker of airsoft and pellet guns, awhile back. Umarex actually makes several of the pistols that are branded as “Walthers” - The P 22, the PK 380, the Creed come to mind. Walther Germany itself makes the PPQ and PPS. And now, the “new” PPK and PPK/S will be made by Walther USA in Ft Smith. Getting complicated, huh? Then there was something to do with restrictions like those of the 1968 gun control act related to size and features.

Anyway, as I now understand it, production at Fort Smith and distribution will begin some time later this year. I’m not going to hold my breath, and I do not like the Smith and Wesson version nearly as well as the original version of the PP series. If in fact all that comes off the line is the Smith and Wesson version, I will probably not buy one. We will see what happens and go from there. Hope this helps.

Did you have to use a photo from “Never Say Never Again”?

Step away from the PPK in .32 ACP. He was talkin’ to me!

(Unless he’s talkin’ over $550.00; then he’s talkin’ to you).
