Question about the Salt Plains youth hunt. It is 2 deer with first being antlerless. Do you all know if the antlerless deer has to be physically checked in or is it something we can shoot the doe and let it lay (weather permitting obviously) for a bit if we see other deer near by??

I can't give you a definite answer to your question, but they will answer that in the pre-hunt briefing which you must attend. I know what I have seen done in the past, but don't know if it was proper. Ask the folks in charge when you get there.

In the two deer hunts I have been on, both for myself and my daughter, the instruction given was if you have a deer down that you have physically laid hands on, you can continue to hunt for an antlered deer without checking in the first one.

I’m planning to visit the refuge in the next few weeks to see if they have a map of the hunt areas broken into the compartments that are hunted.
If I remember right(its been a few years) there is an overhead photograph of the entire refuge in the lobby of the visitors center that breaks that out.
