Hi All,

Just moved here from Denver and I am trying to figure things out so sorry for the super basic question.

I joined Tulsa Gun Club for the clays course, but the pistol and rifle ranges are super limited. Where can I go around here where I am allowed to draw from a holster, shoot standing, kneeling, prone, etc? Thanks for your time.

I'm not new to OK, but I am still somewhat new to the Tulsa area. I think USSA might offer that.

Yes, USSA does allow that, plus rapid fire. Me and a friend go there every week and he sets up a drill where he draws, fires on two steel targets, moves and fires on a 3rd, then fires on a 4th and walks towards it while firing 2-3 more shots. We also just setup a drill to draw and fire from the waist as a first shot in a close encounter (though standing a safe distance back from the steel target). Its one of the main reasons I chose USSA over HH, TGC, etc. Though they don't have a clay course. Its $189 (I think, maybe a little less) for a year membership or $20 a visit.

Thanks for all the extra info!

Sounds like a good time. But, what's s safe distance from the target?

According to USPSA rule book for pistol and pistol caliber carbine competitons here's the distance we use:

2.1.3 Minimum Distances – Whenever metal targets or metal hard cover are used in a course of fire, precautions must be taken so that competitors and Match Officials maintain a minimum distance of 23 feet from them while they are being shot. Where possible, this should be done with physical barriers. If Fault Lines are used to limit the approach to metal targets, they must be placed at least 26 feet from the targets so that the competitor may inadvertently fault the line and still be outside the 23 feet minimum distance (see Rule 10.5.17). Care should also be taken in respect of metal props in the line of fire.

It's important that the steel is set perpendicular to the shooting position too. You can still get splatter from the bullet fragments so don't forget that eye protection!

Thanks. Good guidelines to follow. Nothing ruins your day like the copper jacket off an FMJ round bouncing back in the eyeball.
