i loaded a couple.270win a few weeks ago and I put a new scope on the .270 so I grabbed a box of factory ammo and the 2 reloads and went to our range with the grandson and son in law the factory ammo was all over the place and finally I got ticked off and told the son in law the hell with it they should be on paper needless to say I’m reloading the rest of them

130 grain Winchester power point I had problems with them last year so I switched to my 300winmag and Browning ammo that’s why I bought a reloader and started bugging the hell out of Dennis Hoddy and posting questions on here. I reloaded with my step dad in high school but thanks to Dennis and other OSA members I’m back on track

WOOHOO!
You are screwed now.
You will be in with the rest of us with a dedicated room and all kinds of powders and projectiles and other goodies that will addict you to handloading.
The pain will never go away but holding empty brass in your hand eases the pain as does staring at little holes close together on a piece of paper.

Great job I bet you were grinning ear to ear after shooting them.

Not bugging me at all. I enjoy passing along the information I’ve learned over the years by making mistakes and learning from them.
I didn’t have anyone to bug in the years I was learning when there was no internet or texts to get a quick answer, relying on what I gleaned from Reloading manuals and friends that reloaded.
We have a plethora of information on the internet now with as we all know some may be dubious.
I’ve seen Some loads that would be questionable as I’ve tried them and backed off.
Reloading is a great hobby to tune your gun to the most accurate it can be. No two barrels are the same.
Back in the day you bought hundreds of dollars of ammo to get a load with a lot number that worked for your barrel, and then bought more of the same lot number to keep an accurate rifle.
Now you reload, get a sweet load that is repeatable, and duplicate it.

Do you have any more factory ammo that you did not shoot?

If yes and you have an inertia bullet puller I would try this.

Pound the bullet out farther by .150"
and seat it to where it is the same length as your reloads measured from base to the ogive.

You may be surprised at the accuracy increase.
I have taken a lot of factory ammo apart and it all measures very well and the poor accuracy I have traced to inconsistent neck tension and wrong overall length of the loaded round for my gun.

I did take some 308 ammo apart that used BL-C2 powder or what looked like it and in my testing with 150gr there is an accuracy node at 45gr and the factory ammo was above that so i reduced the load to 45 gr of the factory powder
and stuck them back together.
shot very tight groups.. and yes the crimp was eliminated in the process.. so 2 things changed.

See what I mean it's an addiction.
