Buy a new or used car?

The car broke down and Im waiting on the tow truck. Depends on what the repair bill is, but I'm thinking of getting a new car since it's the second time this one has failed.

Always wanted a Civic, so would you go used or new?

I vote for used as well. The value of a new vehicle drops disproportionately just by driving it off the lot after purchase.

Screw buying new off the lot. I might do that for my GT-R someday, but I can't fathom much, if any, other time I might buy brand spanking new.

On a Civic the resale values are so high, you really need to assess the overall cost to decide whether new or used. The difference might not be big enough to justify a used one.

Yep. And they're not crazy expensive like everything else so you might as well get a new one.
Now if you're talking a supercrew truck or Cadillac, Lexus, etc. get used. Depreciation sets in quick.

Get a 2016 or 2017. Save a few grand. Save A LOT if you want a 20k mile rental...
