Did the bolt lock back? If not, the gun is too dry and you need to lube it properly. If it does lock back, I'd say you have an extractor problem.

Are you running Wolf? If so, you probably need to break the gun in a little more because Wolf is a little wimpy and steel cases cause a few issues (I'm not a snob, I use wolf for blasting purposes).

All of this said, most of the issues I see at the range with ARs are lack of lubrication.

most, if not all, 223/556 barrels are now chambered 223 wylde and are safe to run any factory ammo, super hot reloads might be a different story tho. some folks might load up to kaboom zones

What's the ejection pattern for the rounds that do successfully eject? IIRC, should be to your 3 o'clock to 4:30 position.

Could be a weak extractor spring.

i only shoot brass cased as well, i have some rooshun x39 that has a brass case, but it's a bi-metal bullet so haven't fired any of that yet, last resort ammo
