Wil Oil Capital or OCGGC let my 13 y/o shoot matches?

Thinking about taking my son to a match tomorrow at one of these two places.

Oil Capital is doing IDPA, I've been there once a couple years ago.

Never been to OKCGC or done USPSA.

As an RO at some of the OKCGC USPSA matches, I will say yes, as long as he has the wherewithal to follow the rules and he is safe. He will be subject to the same possibilities of DisQualification (DQ) as every other competitor. We have had kids as young as 10 or 11 shoot the USPSA matches there in the past.
Has he shot any competitions in the past?
Does he know the USPSA range commands and their meaning?
Do you think he is ready to move and shoot safely?
Bring him out tomorrow morning, sign-in starts at 9:30 and New shooter meeting will be about 9:45 or so, and we should start shooting about 10:00.

I’m sure OC will. I know for a fact OKCGC will. Usually they have a new shooter briefing before they start. It’s mostly just common sense stuff but they’ll go over range commands and stuff.

Go. You both will have a blast!

He is more than capable of learning the commands in no time and following commands safely. We're much closer to Tulsa, I am waiting to hear back from Jack Ostendorff. Problem is, we haven't really set up for this in advance. He has a holster for his P22, but their page says 9mm or above, and he only has 2 mags for the P22, anyways. I need to look through and see what all I have 3 mags for... most of the guns I have 3 mags for are .40 S&W, except my Sig P365, and the holster I have for that is an IWB... probably not the best choice for his first match.

<edit> I'm trying to talk my wife into going, too, but she was gone all week out of town and she kinda wants to relax. And she is self-conscious.

Yeah the only thing I can see a .22 in is steel challenge which is a fantastic way to start and just as fun. No movement and you get familiar with the range commands and just shooting. SC is 3rd Saturday at OKCGC so you can gather some mags. You want enough to do 5 5round strings and that's with no extra shots, which NOBODY does.

For a kid 9mm in USPSA, Limited division is the way to go. Limited is easier to shoot, less reloads and gaming. At OKCGC there will be a few tough shots, so more ammo capacity will help. IDPA will have lower round counts so a couple mags might get you by. In USPSA you'll need at least 3 and 4 is even better.

It's looking like we're going to need to make some more plans... I don't think we're going to be able to do it this weekend, and we have alot going on coming up. <sigh>

Ponca Range has USPSA on the second Saturday of the month and Steel Challenge on the 4th Saturday. We have new shooters every match.

Yeah, I knew that, but next week we are driving the church kids down to paintball. <sigh>
And the 2nd Saturday in Nov I will be out of driving range - 5,424 miles out of range, to be exact.
Then it'll be December, and I doubt I will be able convince my Caribbean-born wife to set foot outdoors for another 3-4 months. lol
