I'm still confuse about deciding on what scope will fit in in my .308, it's a hunting rifle for deer, pigs and varmints. i want to shot long range so what will be the best long range scope under 1000 .
Anyone here hunt with 10x scopes? What is the longest shot with those scopes, and I felt that 10x was enough in this range? Thanks

I firmly believe that anyone who is considering shooting animals at 1000 yards should be well beyond the stage of asking questions about the power of scope necessary.
Ya gotta start somewhere.
I'll personally never shoot an animal at that range, although I've shot further than that by 117 yards on steel using someone's rifle who does know what they are doing.

He never said he wanted to shoot 1000 yards, just long range. For all we know that could be 500 yards.

Why don't y'all step up to the plate and answer a guys question like a gentleman? I doubt you would act this way if he asked the same question face to face.

Op, first decide how much you want to spend, then what features you want on a scope; Mil or MOA based, 1st or 2nd focal plain, 1 inch or 30mm tube, 40 or 50 mm objective, quality of glass (Chinese, Philippines, Japanese, German, etc). After you make those decisions does it fit in your price range. I would probably look at a variable scope in the 4-14x40

10x variable optic would be fine for your 308 man. Some of the best 308 hunting rounds such as 150/168 gr Barnes TTSX will effective take down whitetail up to 500yds if you can do your part. I’m taking about ethically killing a game animal. Not target shooting.

When it comes to just shooting steel, 10x is fine at almost any range depending on your eyes.

I’m building a 300wm for caribou and bear at similar ranges.

Long range target shooting: the definition of "long range" changes with the person. So I would suggest a general guideline of no more than 1 power per 50 yards. 1 power per 100 yards is a good minimum. Benchrest shooters can go a little higher, but remember it won't make you a better shot.
