Heading to Spavinaw this weekend for a youth rifle hunt with my daughter.
Been out there once in 2015 and we didnt have any luck, but did see a couple deer. Anybody hunt up there or been up there in recent years on a draw have any ideas of a good place to sit? We will not have a whole lot of scout time, but plan to do some scouting the morning before the hunt starts and get a stand and blind set for options.

You may check out McCasland Fields, it's on the SE corner of the GMA. It's been a few years since I have been there, but there was a lot of wide open areas, pond, and thick cover. Very easy to get in and out of the area. There was even Elk sign there along with plenty of deer sign. I never ran into any other hunters there. With the Rut kicking up, this will be a good option to look at. Good luck to you and your daughter this weekend. Stay safe!

I used to take my son and daughter on those youth hunts. I was given good advice and it helped. For some reason, no one really wants to hunt up next to the HQ buildings/yard. There's usually an area that they block off as no hunting but search around that perimeter for deer sign. Catch them moving towards that safe zone because there's usually some food plots right there.

Yes so far everything i have looked at was at the opposite corner. i see mccasland road listed on the map, are you saying just east of the road near or on the plots or right near the border of n4520 road? ill def check that out! thank you!

I see where you are saying now. there is a pond just north of a field that look to be a plot. ive always stayed away from plots on draws i figured they have so much pressure on them. but being fairly close to the PHA and the south border, if it isnt covered with hunters, i think i will check it out friday morning before the hunt! thanks again!

Correct, it is on the east side of the McCasland road, it used to be an old landing strip if i recall. Keep us up to date on the hunt. My daughter is in her 2nd year of deer hunting, and i'm loving every moment i can spend with her and teaching her about hunting and fishing so she will be able to provide for her family when she is older. Cherish the moments and Good luck, hoping your daughter puts a smack down on a deer this weekend! Stay Safe!
