They're around, though on the air in NEOK it's mostly emergency communications stuff. If you make it down to Dallas or Houston the repeaters are full of much more interesting conversations. The tech test is stupid easy, take the practice test for a couple of days and you will pass.
My grandfather lived in Houston and I remember his radio chatting nonstop. He's dead n gone now. He was KA5SFE. Not sure why I still remember that but I do.

It's a great way to kill time in traffic. I suppose I should be glad that traffic in Tulsa isn't bad enough to keep the repeaters busy lol.
