If ya hadn't disgusted me with the or him scenario I might have participated.. YUCK, Does your "other" have a hairy chest ? Maybe you shouldn't answer that..

No. I was referring to the female members we have here. You disgusted yourself, I’m afraid, by assuming I was talking about same sex couples. Ewwwwww.

By the way, nobody has really answered all the questions I initially asked. But that’s okay, those who choose to defend in place while 911 is being called are correct. The only way I would strap on my Rambo Head Band and go about clearing the house is if I had kids or other loved ones on the other side of the house. Then I can only hope my somewhat deteriorated skills from years ago are still marginally better than some punk or punks who break into houses for a living. That whole thing of having a pistol grip rather than a stock, and the shortest shotgun you can get is crap if you are going to be hunkered down behind the dresser anyway. Plus, I really don’t want to shoot someone unless I have to.

Think of the collateral damages. The mess someone’s got to clean up once the Medical Office crew is done, the Sheetrock, the painting, etc. is nothing to ignore, nosirree, that’s a lot of work. I’m lazy like that.

CRASH!
I’m gonna be in a defensive posture, 12 gauge pump loaded with reduced recoil 00 buck pointed at the doorway. The wife is on the phone with 911, my BUG will be my nightstand gun, Sig 9MM with 124 gr +P HST Rounds. Wife has the J Frame with Hornady CD light recoil in it. The hallway to the bedroom is also covered by a motion detector, so it’s lit up well for me; anyone in the hall or doorway is back-lit nicely, while the Old Devil Dog is somewhere in the room behind some kind of cover with one eye and a shotgun barrel all there is to be seen; if one could see in the dark well enough to find my position in time to shoot me that is. There are also a few decorative mirrors placed in the hall to give me a slight edge as well. (Think about it).

Now we quietly wait for the cops, hoping the bad guy just goes away, but if he comes down that hallway and decides he wants to come on in my bedroom, despite the obvious warning signs not to, then he has gone too far. He can play “Find the Victim in the Dark” and I’ll play “Center the Bead” and squeeze.

Grab my loaded 9mm pistol and surefire off the nightstand.Wife sleeps on the other side of the house. Headoff the intruder in the middle of the house.

"Interesting" that 98% do not mention having and using a light.

1. Rifle or shotgun? Pump or Auto? Caliber or Gauge?
2. What do you have it loaded with?
3. What condition is it in?
4. Do you have a BUG? What is it, what’s in it, and it’s condition too please.

It’s now been just a split second since you got jerked awake by the sound of the break-in; now you hear the gritty sound of the back patio door sliding open across the broken glass. What is your immediate next and subsequent actions?

#1 Shotgun 1924 Browning A5 12 gauge Never failed to fire.
#2 Bird shot not sure what pellet size. Don't matter though it's gonna kill you from the distance you will receive the lead.
#3 Patina and smooth action.
#4 what is a BUG? I say no since I do not know what that is.

Next action is grab shot gun from my side of the bed and pull wife over to my side away from the door and put her on ground and hand her the 45acp from the night stand. It is loaded and ready and safety is never on.

I head to the door which is always open and lay low in prone position at the top of the stairs.
There is a smelly good glade plug in that makes light in the kitchen around the corner down stairs just enough I can see down stairs and into living room.
I wait and see who comes around corner while laying low at top of stairs and finger at the ready.

Phone is down stairs plugged into the wall wife has one of those cell ones. I do not care what she is doing and I ain't going back near her without telling her it is me or I will get shot all up.

Police will be called when I can get to my phone and that will be when the coast is clear as the phone is close to the back door.

Birdshot was mentioned earlier. I remember shortly after the “Make my Day Law” was enacted a burglar had broke into a house in Jones, OK and a little old lady was there by herself. When she heard the noise she picked up a double barrel shotgun loaded with birdshot and they met face to face in a narrow hallway. She gave him both barrels. When the cops arrived, they followed the blood trail through the hallway, out the window he came in through and found his body about twenty five feet from the house in the back yard.

The DA ruled it justifiable homicide under the new law.

I’ve experimented with birdshot and paper targets at close range. At a short distance , birdshot that hasn’t had time to spread out after leaving the barrel leaves a hole similar to a shotgun slug.

For me, my critters would make noise. They raise a fuss over a lot of things. Mostly false alarms, but enough to wake me. My scenario considers entry into my house from different areas. I have pistols in several places throughout the house. My house isn’t that big and moving around with a long gun wouldn’t be practical.
