I write to urge your support for current legislation for the implementation of Constitutional Carry. The rights laid out in the Bill of Rights should not be infringed by fees, training requirements and background checks. These things offer little or no real benefit - they are mostly window dressing. On the flip side these things offer a foundation for abuse should the powers that be decide to up the cost and difficulty. Other states do quite well with Constitutional Carry…we should follow their lead.

SB 12 will authorize off-duty officers to carry a personal rifle or shotgun anywhere in the state. Carrying a personal rifle or shotgun off-duty is subject to the same requirements as carrying an approved weapon.

What this bill doesn't cover is the transportation of long guns by non-leo. As it's shown above, it does address off duty leo which I agree with.
Current laws state a citizen of OK can carry a long gun as long as there is no round in the chamber. You can have the magazine inserted or the tube type magazine loaded, but nothing in the chamber.
Is that law still going to be in effect? I don't see it.

HB2597 passed through safety committee pretty fast and with good support. The general feeling is, this is going to pass this years by both sides and Stitt has said he will sign it depending on how its written. Thats a CYA statement but I feel good about this bill being a huge success.
