Come tell that to my Tundra, plastic tank and exposed fuel lines. Had to do an emergency repair from a rock hitting a fuel line and smashed the tank, not hole in the tank . One of my projects before hunting season is forming some shields for the lines and tank !!

Now i’ve never owned a Tundra is it a 4x4, I have owned 5 different 4 runners and 4 different Tacos and they were armored well!

It is 4x4, but I did not buy it new so the previous owner may have removed some of the shielding. Their is a shield I have to remove when I change the oil. Need to get under the truck and investigate further. Would be fantastic if I could order some instead of making it !!

My 06 z71 has a plastic tank but it’s very thick. Has ridges on the bottom for strength. I bet it weighs more than a metal tank and not looking forward to doing a fuel pump, it is a Chevy after all and it’s inevitable!

None of my Toyota’s had plastic skid plates? I have had 8 Toyota 4x4’s all had steel skid plates....... up to a 2017 4 runner all steel? 04 4Runner (all steel) 84 4 Runner (all steel) 1998 Taco (all steel)

Regards,
Funny, on the Tacoma forum they say it's a plastic skid plate and that they don't have much armor or skid plate protection from the factory. That's why aftermarket steel plates to replace the stock plastic plates and to provide more coverage is recommended. Even Jeep uses them from what I have read on the Jeep forums. Truth is a plastic skid plate can be as strong as a thin steel plate or aluminum.

I am going to check my other sons taco later today, it’s newer and I am curious if they changed from steel to plastic it’s not like Toyota to changes anything ..........it’s one of my few complaints about Yota ......just stale designs never rally stepping out of the Box (this and their refusal to bring a diesel to the U.S. market)
