Looking at buying/leasing some land to shoot on.
Preferably within 2 hours of okc.

Anyone have suggestions on where to look? Most of the land I see posted online is for potential building and they want a pretty penny. I wouldn’t need more than an acre or two, just something to go plinking on the weekends with my better half.

Pretty much all of Oklahoma is within two hours of OKC. The farther you get from OKC, the better your odds are of finding less expensive land, as long as you also stay away from Tulsa. I probably wouldn't bother looking in Oklahoma or Cleveland counties, as land prices are stupid high. Heck, my brother and I were looking south of Mounds, and the cheapest land we found there was $2K/acre ($80K for 40 acres).

I agree with Timmy; you'll want at least five acres. The flatter it is, the more you'll want, because boolits can go a long way if they don't have something (like a hill) to stop them. The last thing you want to do is buy somebody's cow because you missed the target.

I'd also be looking for unincorporated land. That'll get you clear of cities and their petty bureaucrats.

Ponca City Ok
There's a club up in Ponca City. Facilities are legit. Membership is cheaper than a lease. Also, within 2 hours of OKC.

Probably the cheapest membership of any range in Ok. 4 pistol bays with target stands and steel provided, 50 yard, 100 yard, 200 and 300 yard ranges with target stands/shade covers provided as well as a shotgun area with a clay thrower installed.

Yeah that’s the truth. I want to stay far away from any cattle/tractors, just some junk land would be alright. That’s about what I’m seeing price wise too. Really more than I’m wanting to spend... but I may be SOL as it’s looking right now.

Looks like a nice range.
I live about 10 minutes from okc gun club.. I just prefer shooting alone.
Public ranges burnt me out, I got tired of people asking to shoot my suppressors or ogling my other half like they’ve never seen a woman shoot a gun before. I had good luck at Banner for a while, but almost got my head taken off when I was down range changing targets.
I am sure okcgc and this club are different, but if I am paying a lot of $ to shoot, I figure I might as well spend a little more and get my own spot.

I think it's a great idea. Ya could also have a picnic or camp overnight, and (hopefully) have some privacy. :thumb:

An acre is approx 208'x208', so that's almost 70x70 yards. And if it's rectangular rather than square, it would be more than 70 yards in one direction. If it's remote and you put up a decent backstop, you could almost shoot the whole length.

You might even be able to buy an acre or two fairly cheap in a remote area. Could even turn into a retirement retreat eventually.

Just a thought. Luck. :drunk2:

I use Landwatch.com for all my land searches in OK. You can filter your search fairly well and get down to the minimum acreage, by county, etc.

Tell me if you don't mind: Your budget (approximate) and what are your top 4 counties you'd prefer to own this shooting land in. Do you hunt as well?
