I have an in-garage shelter beneath the cement type and have used it once in four years. What has me concerned is that some knucklehead said they rust and fill up with water. After that, I moved all the perishables high up in the shelter "just in case." Actually, I keep some ammo in the shelter in military ammo boxes which are sealed but still , I don't want them under water. I like the shelters made of cement in the back yard but I have somewhat of an aversion to those "converted septic tanks."

We had a walk-in safe room built into our "retirement" home. It holds the gun safe and ammo, a lot of emergency supplies(food, blankets, etc., etc., etc., and plenty of room for us. It was cast out of reinforced concrete at the same time as the footing, stem wall, and slab. It's not very handy when it comes to changing the oil, though. :)

EDITED TO ADD: Forgot to mention that it is also cast with reinforced concrete piers to further anchor it as well.

I have an above ground shelter in my garage. Its a ground zero supposed to withstand an F10 if there was such a thing. Easy in and out.

There is an F-16, but I doubt it would withstand that... LOL!

We put in one of the standard sloped front inground. We did opt for the larger model which seems to add a lot of room.

We installed the standard sloped front inground as well. Serves as a nice wine cellar. Got it when the state offered a rebate to install them.
My buddy's entire master bedroom is reinforced concrete above ground storm cellar with piers that run into the ground for anchors. He built it when the house was being constructed. Pretty nice.

I used Atlas safe room and built it inside the spare bedroom. This is not only a shelter for bad weather, but a panic room and climate controlled storage (closet), not as secure as most gun safes but can be a more secure storage for things inside the house. There are a few companies similar to Atlas, this design uses 2ft sections bolted together and then anchored to the floor, these sections can also be unbolted for emergency exits. Due to this design they can be installed into existing closets or rooms, brought into the house in pieces and assembled on location, they are portable if you decide it needs to go somewhere else too.
