Currently I have the standard Front sight gas block on my AR as it came from the factory but have been thinking of going to a flat or picitanny block and using a flip up front. I like the handguards as they are and was wondering if anyone knows of such a gas block that would be compatible with the existing ring held forends? Thanks in advance as I’m sure there are more knowledgeable folks than me on here.
Is this similar to what you are wanting to end up with?

If so, then this Anderson gas block will get the rail to the same height as the rail on your upper receiver for $20.

Here is a tutorial on changing out the end cap that may help.

There are two different heights of railed gas blocks. Make sure you get the appropriate height front and rear sights to match your rail height(s)

Exactly what I was like looking for. Thanks for the help.

If you are going to all the trouble to mess with the gas block just pull it all off and put on a free float rail. And don't put a plastic front sight on that gas block.

I assume you have a pinned gas block. You will be best served with a front sight base block as you have to beat the ever loving piss out of the pins to get them out. I have done a bunch of free float rails and always just cut the block off, saves me from cussing so much and breaking punches

Me too. Hacksaw, file and a black ink sharpie for the win!
