3 gun shotgun

Looking to finally buy or build a 3 gun shotgun. Want to get opinions on the best route to go. I’ve been thinking I’d just pick up a cheaper used 1100 or 1187 and modify it but I know there are a lot of options. My little brother has the mossberg 930 JM which is a good gun for the price but is really picky on ammo. Any in put is greatly appreciated.

If you are on a limited budget, pick up a used Benelli M1. Otherwise just get an M2 or Vinci or a Beretta 1301. Don't bother with the 930 or 1100. They don't hold up, the spaghetti guns do.

I know a lot of guys run the M2 but even used they cost a lot. I just didn’t wanna break the bank right off the bat.

I've seen used M1s on Gunbroker cheap. $600 to $800 range. Nothing wrong with one of those, they are just not the new "hotness". You can also find used Vincis for around $800 and they shoot softer than the M1 or M2 and you get the comfortech stock too.

I’ve bought both of my m2’s for 800. Still amazed what those things will hold up to. Hundreds if not thousands of rounds of being thrown in the back of a truck or knocked around in a layout blind or goose pit. Then put thousands of rounds through it on the skeet field. Not one hiccup after 7 years

There you go folks. Not one but two real world performance tests of Benelli shotguns. I will chime in on the performance of my M4, nary a hiccup. Nuff said.

It has had only the barrel extension replaced, and a bolt carrier, all well after 150,000 rounds and 6 sets of springs. I would never be afraid of a used M1..... As long as no garge racer had hacked on it. If you find A stock one jump on it!!! Nothing, and I do mean nothing will last as long nor be as reliable as a Benelli

And this right here is all you need to know!

Another option IF you can find one would be an old beater Browning Auto 5. I say "if" you can find one because it took me almost 10 years to find one that I was willing to cut on. It was beat to hell, the forend was broken completely in half and duct taped together. It has absolutely no collector value left.

If you can find a Belgian gun that you can bring yourself to molest and abuse you can throw on a Nordic tube and some synthetic furniture. Just get the Nordic kit for a Browning BPS as they have the same thread as the Auto 5. Don't bother with the Japanese made guns because they use a different thread. The old Browning points fast, swings fast and HOLY HELL do they shoot fast! Mine cost me $317 out the door.

I also have a Benelli M-1 and it has been very reliable. I added a limbsaver recoil pad and my son and grandson customized it with some stickers.
