Walmart generally is an open carry friendly place--except for some of the customers. I was showing a customer a shotgun a few weeks ago when I noticed a guy give us the stink-eye. I chuckled to myself when he turned so I could see his back and I spotted the manbun on the back of his head. It got me to wondering--is the manbun actually a cushion for when the wearer gets knocked flat on his ass?

Anyway, I'll be following this thread as I'll have my own challenges with carrying, though nowhere near as great as yours. Thank you for sharing your journey, steelfingers. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

You know, you may be right about the man-buns.

I have a suggestion, steelfingers. If you don't have one yet, get a locking case for your car that you can store your gun in when you're going into a place where you absolutely can't carry. I have one I picked up on clearance at my Walmart but they are carried online at Walmart or Amazon. You can get it with a key lock or combination lock and they have a 3 ft. steel cable you can loop around anything securely anchored to the frame or body of the car, like a seat attachment point. It doesn't have to be fancy, it just needs to temporarily hold your gun when you can't have it with you.

Thanks. I was looking at those and you can all a sleeve and you have great access as a car gun.

I forgot to mention, or give an update, on an odd Open Carry incident recently. I can't IWB carry, even with my Sig P365. I knew that early on. So I committed to OWB and love it. I've never liked OWB because I didn't want anyone to know that I'm carrying. Turns out (here in my part of Oklahoma) nobody cares. I carry at 4 O'clock and good for inside the car as well as out and about. I planned on buying a few other leather holsters (hate Kydex) and trying them out with different guns. Trouble is, I love my cheap (extremely comfortable) leather holster and CZ P07. I'm a creature of habit but I do wan't to get a good holster (with thumb snap) for my Kimber 45 and CZ Shadow 2.
I'm on the meds so my mind tends to wander. (Can you tell?) So back to the open carry incident.
The Man bun thing reminded me of it. I had went to work and made a full day of it (paid for it later...ha). Had to take the holster and gun off for the meeting in a Gov building and put it back on when I was leaving. Headed home, and not to far to go, when I needed to take a bathroom break. Pulled in a mom and pop place that I've been stopping at for 40 years. Didn't recognize the guy behind the counter (turned out to be the grandson). Couple of people in the place but not crowded. Went to buy a Pepsi (hate using the bathroom and not buying anything). As I was at the counter to pay, there were two Man bunners/sjw ******* guys. They were making comments about me wearing a gun but I had missed most of the conversation. Pretty quick, the grandson (behind the counter) starts telling the two bun boys to take their ****, attitudes and business elsewhere. He told them this was an american business that supports the 2nd and to get the F&$k out.
The two guys literately fell over each other trying to get out and the other person behind me applauded.
I asked what happened and he filled in the details. 5 months ago I would have clocked one of them and rocked the other. They may have beat the crap out of me out of that, but those two things I would have done. Those days are gone and that's why I need to carry.
As I was leaving I thanked him and he said "for what?"
I love my state
