No, buffer tube. Some places list them as rifle vs pistol length. I guess milspec covers the diameter and length. For someone just learning the terms and types it gets a bit confusing when trying to communicate what you are getting.

Technically there are only two buffer tube “lengths”:
Rifle = A1 or A2 length fixed stocks (non collapsible)
Carbine = shorter collapsible system. Can be 5-7 positions.

There are some proprietary intermediate lengths, such as the VLTOR A5 system.

“Pistol” is a carbine length non adjustable (typically round profile) buffer tube.

Just FYI. Since it sounds like you were misinformed via poorly worded website.

Thanks for the info. I've seen some that show a "rifle" length and others list a carbine. In my research I've seen where it talks about the commercial vs milspec and what it refers to. I'm guessing (and I could be wrong) but would a general milspec mean both the diameter and that its a carbine style?

If you hear mil-spec or commercial it is referring to a carbine stock.

If you are talking lengths then its like Nikatkimber said Rifle or Carbine which will determine the type of stock you have. Also the carbine has the rectangle piece on the bottom of tube with the notches for the adjustable stock where a rifle tube is longer and doesn't have that. This video at 1m23s shows tubes. The red tube you linked to is a carbine tube.

The two lengths are both “mil-spec”. Mil spec vs commercial both refer to carbine length collapsible tubes. It’s the diameter primarily that changes, although true mil-spec has a different material (7075 vs 6065). There is a minor shape change for commercial, but that’s not a functional difference like the diameter. If you google commercial buffer tube diagrams that show the exact difference should show up.

Like this I posted in an earlier link.

Its starting to look like a rifle finally! Lower just needs the castle nut torqued, stock installed, a buffer spring and buffer. Upper needs the forward assist installed and I need to purchase the barrel, gas block, gas tube, comp and handguard and install them.

Its looking good. Are you going to do a red free float?

I had thought about it, but decided it would be a little too much red. Really just want the red for highlights and to break up the solid black look. I'm going to get an mlok free float and will probably get a few mlok rails that are cerakoted red to go with the overall theme.
