The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors voted Tuesday to prohibit official travel to Alabama for one year in response to that state's recently approved abortion ban.

The motion, recommended by Supervisor Hilda Solis, makes exceptions for travel related to emergencies and other matters where the ban would seriously harm county interests.

"This challenge by Alabama and other states would overturn decades of precedent,'' Solis said in a statement issued after the vote. "It is an attack not only confined to the residents of those states, but an act of aggression upon all of us. We must stand in solidarity and in opposition against extremist and unconstitutional laws that put the health and well-being of families at risk."

The four members of the board present at the meeting, all women, voted in favor of the prohibition without comment.

In Alabama, women who have the money will be able to safely access abortion, but women who are poor will not.

As long as fewer children are killed, sounds good to me. The women with money needn’t worry. They won’t have “access” for much longer either, God willing.

And what is “safely access abortion” supposed to mean? There’s nothing safe about procedures that have the sole purpose of killing people. People can’t stomach abortion without shrouding it in layers of euphemism.

I fixed it (graphic warning)…

The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors voted Tuesday to prohibit official travel to Alabama for one year in response to that state's recently approved ban on murdering defenseless young people.

"This challenge by Alabama and other states would overturn decades of precedent,'' Solis said in a statement issued after the vote. "It is an attack not only confined to the residents of those states, but an act of aggression upon all who support murdering babies. We must stand in solidarity and in opposition against extremist and unconstitutional laws that put the health and well-being of families before our right to pay someone to literally tear a child into pieces small enough to fit through a vacuum hose and then crush her skull."

At least one member of the public opposed the motion, titled "Killing Babies is Healthcare."

"Killing babies is not health care," Mark Gallagher told the board. "It is a grave moral evil.”

The supervisors also voted to send a letter to the governors and legislative leaders of Arkansas, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, Missouri, Ohio and Utah setting out the county's opposition to legislation defending the lives of the youngest, most vulnerable members of society and calling for the immediate repeal of any such laws.

"We would like you to believe that banning the murder of unborn people won't stop women from seeking severe chemical burns to their babies so that they are born prematurely, gasping for the few excruciating breaths they will take before they die feeling utterly alone and in terror, even though it’s very unlikely many women would take on the significant risks to their own health and safety involved in back-alley baby killings," Supervisor Sheila Kuehl said. "In Alabama, women who have the money will be able to have their children murdered without as much risk to their own physical health (although many will suffer deep mental and emotional trauma possibly for the rest of their lives), but women who are poor will have the privilege and joy of loving and raising their children, even though no one deserves such a blessing. Women across the country must resist legislation that will limit infanticidal choices that are essential to the extremist feminist fairytale that the ability to have casual sex with no regard for the consequences somehow benefits women."

"Los Angeles County will stand against all attempts to dismantle the depravity afforded by Roe v. Wade in a grave misunderstanding of the U.S. Constitution,'' Solis said. "Today's vote sends a strong signal that infringing upon an individual's rights to killing any child who dares take up residence in her uterus and ‘it’s none of your business which of my kids I decide to have murdered’ are not American values."

Ok, so, they prohibit travel to Alabama for “official reasons”, but it’s OK if it would cause harm to “County interests”.

The way I interpret this, is that if you have to go to Alabama for official reasons, you can’t. BUT, if it interferes with something the County wants or needs, you can go.

They want to stomp their feet and pout, but they still want to get what they want before the tantrum.

Good point.
