Got to spend some quality time with my bestie aka my wife, and our newest addition to the 22 collection. A S&W 22 Compact. Few things I really like about it are as follows:
  • Same size, shape, and feel as the 380 EZ but in 22lr.
  • Very accurate with the right ammo
  • Easy to point shoot with
  • Light weight
  • Easy to disassemble and clean
What I would change:
  • Trigger is stiff and needs work
  • Sights 1. While the 3 dot sights are adjustable easy to pick up I foresee fiber optic replacements in the near future.
  • Sights 2. The rear site is windage and elevation adjustable which is good. But after about 50 rounds the windage screw became loose, and would work itself out of zero often. Easy fix with a little bit of locktite, but is a bit annoying.
While it is a 22lr it is LOUD! In fact I kind of think that it is actually louder than the 380EZ, not really a big deal, just found it a bit surprising.

So how's it shoot?

Tried 4 different types of ammo today CCI Stingers, CCI Mini Mags, Winchester super x solids, and Winchester super x hollow points.
Best group of 20 rounds slow fire at ten yards was with the CCI Stingers.

Forgot to take a picture of the mini mags :brick:
But the results were similar.

The Winchester Super X solids were ok, not great, but not horrible either.

But it does not like the Winchester super x hollow points at all:hellno: They were just horrible, smokey for some reason, and just all over the place.

So far so good. Had a good time with the wife, got to get out of the house and was able to go shooting:thumbup3:

This was the first range session with this one and can't wait for the next one. Where I plan on trying a few of the bulk packs like Blaser, Federal, and Remington.

Can see this one getting a suppressor eventually.

I just ordered another M&P .22 Compact myself. It will be my third one. I foolishly traded the other two off but decided it’s just too fun of a gun not to have. My experiences with them were similar; they don’t like Win Super X at all. But damn if they didn’t eat anything else I fed ‘em, Federal Bulk Pack etc. CCI Mini Mags were the favorites. Best accuracy with them. Mine should be in later today or tomorrow maybe. I’m going to keep this one. Grabagun has them in special at $285 right now. The only thing I added was a fiber optic front sight and a Barrel Locking Bushing from EWG Arms (like $8 bucks). Great little fun rimfire Pistols, enjoy the thing!

Edit: CCI Standard Velocity was also an excellent round in these little pistols for me.

I tried to find a used M&P Compact for a while;( looks like I didn’t look hard enough, if you traded 2). I bought mine when PSA had them on sale, with tax and shipping, still around $300. Excellent firearm, right up there with the SR22. Have the full size M&P .22 made by Walther, 12 round magazines.
The Compact is very accurate, very easy to load, seems to work fine on the bunk ammunition I have and buy. The only negative ( just being picky) is the magazine disconnect safety, SR22 and Browning 1911 have the safety also!

A buddy was over yesterday evening and I brought out the 15-22 and the compact.. He loved the feel and said now he wants one.. Yes they are surprisingly loud.. If you need more mags E bay is the place to go, IMO..

I am the lucky recipient of one of the afore mentioned traded compacts. Everything @druryj said is true! (like always) Pure joy to shoot, never a problem of any sort and should be a "must have" for every enthusiast.

I’m glad you like it. I like it so much I bought another one. Now I gotta get a fiber front and one of those barrel bushings. Maybe I oughta shoot it some first eh?

Appears as though there's no longer a need for that bushing...
