9MM AMMO Range Report

Fired 150 Rounds of 9mm in 3 different guns today. Here's my take on 2 different brands and 2 different types.

1- Federal Champion 115 grain FMJ RN = decent accuracy- feeds reliable - The most DIRTY Shooting 9MM I have ever shot. Will not buy it again [AR9 ]

2- Winchester White Box Range Pack 115 Grain FMJ = Shoots accurate- Feeds reliable- and shoots Much CLEANER than the Federal. [AR9 and SIG P320]

3- Winchester PDX Defender +P 124 Grain BJHP = Shoots accurate - Feeds reliable - and shoots much CLEANER than the Federal Champion [SIG P320 ]

This ammo may perform differently in your 9 MM guns.

What gun were you shooting? And of course, pics are always helpful in threads like this. I have shot a LOT of the Federal 115 FMJ, the purple box cheap stuff from Walmart mostly, and I find it to be no dirtier than WWB 115 FMJ, in my opinion. Both are just cheap range fodder, on the same level as Perfecta, Green/White box Remington, PPU, Priv Partisan, Monarch, Blazer Brass, etc. Now the PDX 124 BJHP is a different class of ammo and is reportably an excellent round; one I would be comfortable carrying in my CCW pistols. My preferred 9mm range ammo of late is Win 124 NATO FMJ. 10-15% more powerful than their standard white box stuff and it has always ran fine in all my 9mm guns. I'm getting it in the 150 packs at Wally for a bit over $27 for the 150 round pack. My pistols seem to feed, chamber, fire, extract and eject flawlessly with this ammo.

The Federal shot so dirty I would not shoot it in the SIG P320.

Shot both the Federal and Winchester in the AR 9 and the WIN shot much cleaner.

That's the truth. Every gun be it rifle or pistol will not shoot the same ammo accurately.
It's better now with CNC machining of the barrels that hold tighter tolerances, but one can still improve typically by reloading to find that sweet spot of accuracy.

Winchester works well in my semi-auto pistols, (P229, G19, ruger SR1911, among others) but it won't ignite reliably in my 986 revolver. For the 986, I need the softer primers of Federal, or Remington.

I agree with Joel here in that Winchester shoots no cleaner than any other brand. That's my observation, anyway.
