Quick note for anyone curious about the Taurus G2C. I picked one up today from a fellow OSA member through the classifieds (thanks Hoov). Got a good deal on it as well. I wasn't really in the market for one of these, but I'd heard of them before and the price was good enough that I decided to go for it.
Long story short, I stopped by a friends house on the outskirts of Newcastle on the way home to put a few magazines through it. I have to tell you friends, this little pistol has thus far exceeded my expectations. I know that it's a $200-220 retail firearm, but it sure doesn't shoot like one. I've owned firearms retailing for 4-5 times that amount that aren't as enjoyable to shoot as this G2C.
I ended up running about 75 reloads, 1 box of Blazer 115gr, and 1 magazine of Hornady 115gr Critical Defense through it. I found the point of impact to be slightly on the high side, but luckily this firearm has adjustable windage and elevation screws on the rear sight. After 2 magazines, I had her dialed in, and it ran through good ammo and some rougher reloads without any issues thus far. I left my friend's house with a smile on my face, as this firearm, thus far, has been very nice to shoot.
Taurus really put some thought into the ergonomics, and the grip texture isn't too rough, but holds secure and comfortable. I do really like the fact that they didn't bring the texture all the way to the bottom of the grip. I've shot some pistols with aggressive texturing all the way down, and that lower part has really torn up my hand on some other pistols in the past.
Firearm disassembly is easy, basically the same as a Glock.
The trigger took a minute to get used to, but very easy to adapt to and be consistent with. Firearm also has a second strike capability.
All in all, color me surprised. I bought this little guy because it was a good deal, and figured it'd be something I'd shoot every now and again. I left the range tonight thinking that this will make it's way into my carry rotation.
One thing I will point out is that as a lefty, I'm not a fan of the safety on the left side of the slide. Really, not a fan of these on any striker fired pistol. That being said, it really isn't a deal breaker for me.
Taurus isn't known as most people's first choice for their polymer pistols. It honestly isn't mine. But I have to say, this G2C will change some folk's minds out there, especially at this price point.
The sad thing is that I have to leave town in the morning for the next 7-8 days for work, and I'll be unable to shoot it until next weekend.
