He’s been using blanks but is working on a forge. In the meantime, he’s bought some bar stock to start practicing with temper and shaping.

Cheap and Easy....

Here is a simple extra hand when you need it.

Piece of scrap board and a cheap import needle nose vice grips that I found on a section line road close to my house.

Only cost was $0.40 cents to get a bolt at the hardware store. I have tons of assorted bolts and nuts in my workshop, but none would fit this vice grip. Some weird metric thread.

I have a heavy vise on my bench and a small clamp on one also, but this one allows good access for soldering, etc.

I made this contraption several years ago and don't use it much, but has come in mighty handy a few times.

Not a fly tier (tyer?), but might come in handy for the casual fly person.

Adjustable tension, just turn it on the bolt just you would on a regular pair of vice grips.

If you had waaay plenty room on your workbench (I don't) you could screw it down permanently...this one just sits on the shelf until I need it.
