Towing RV and Boat

I have been considering buying a 5th wheel. I like to travel and fish and while I don't mind camping, tents in August don't do it for me. Plus I view it as an opportunity for my wife and son (currently only 1-yr) to go more often. I know I have seen people tow a boat behind a 5th wheel and know I guy that tows from Dallas to Canton every year. Now my boat trailer is a little long, but even with the shortest 5th wheel I can find I still cant stay under the 65-ft min. Most 5th wheels are +30-ft, add a decent 3/4 ton pickup and you are at 50-ft without a 2nd trailer.

I am missing something, or are people just doing it without getting caught/ticketed? Or just doubling up with smaller boats, ATV trailers etc?

Honestly you'll want a dually for that load, folks think there's not that big of a difference between a one ton single wheel and a one ton dually but once you've hauled the same load with both, there's no comparison. The stability and handling difference is huge. I've seen some really long camper/fifth wheel/trailer/boat/jet ski/towing a Jeep configurations on the road, not sure how they're getting around the 65' of just ignoring it. Honestly I didn't know there was a length limit. Hot shot trailers and crew cab one tons have to be getting close if not over 65' I would think.

In addition, it was mentioned to use a travel trailer (which is technically a bumper hitch trailer), but I think that one might find that in order to double tow, one's RV has to be a fifth wheel. Fifth wheel hitches have a higher weight capacity than a vehicle's receiver capacity.

I live over in the Flatrock Creek area south of Chouteau east of Tulsa on Ft Gibson lake. Was out in my boat by the camping area a couple weeks ago. Amish guy had his 25-30 ft camp trailer and a 24 ft pontoon boat pulling into the camp area. His big Green John Deere tractor did not look like it was having any problem pulling them at all. He did disconnect and put the camper in place before backing his boat in. I had forgotten my phone, pictures would have been neat. Sorry

Yeah I've seen several of em dragging boats n such around Chouteau. Some of the things them folks do and don't do just seem contradicting to me.

You lost me with the f150, the dodge 500 and towing a ftfth wheel and boat through NYC..............

Lots of RV's pulling a double load around, but I think Terry Miller is correct. It has to be a 5th wheel to be legal. Can't remember a bumper pull that is towing another vehicle. As noted in my earlier post in the original post, the rear bumpers in most RV's are designed to carry the sewer hose and that's about it. I've seen pics of bicycle carriers that bounce up and down that have destroyed those back bumpers.
If one want to carry any kind of load back there, inspect it closely every time you stop for fuel and get help if any cracks in the welds develop.

I looked into it years ago and bumper pull was legal for both.
In Oklahoma as long as you did not exceed the length.

For heavy built bumper think Pintle hook possibly.

Pintle hook is not standard, or in many cases, even optional, with most RV's.
