Magazine Pouches

Let’s talk about mag pouches. I like a leather, single mag pouch with a snap on closure, worn OWB. I even prefer the OWB pouch when wearing an OWB Holster. One of my favorites is a old Desantis FTU pouch for a Sig P229; I’ve had this thing for years.
I think I’ll get one for my P365 too. I don’t like the single belt slot pouches or those with a clip worn OWB; they tend to either dangle outwards or dig into my side, on me anyway. If I can’t find a snap on, I’ll settle for dual slots, but I prefer it to be leather.

I like a zip-loc baggie, dropped in the side pocket of my overalls. Unless I'm carrying a folding ruler there...

I use an old leather knife pouch with a snap that slides on over my belt. Nobody ever gives it a second look.

I want this quad pouch, just because.

I had a single mag kydex carrier made for each of my carry guns, Free State Custom Kydex. Had him use his loudest kydex and make me one for a G43, a G17/19, and a 1911. I've never used a leather one for mags but I used to carry my grandfather's Buck in a Safariland 7683 G17 mag pouch. The safariland is excellent quality but I never got around to breaking it in for mags so it's quite snug. I always just grab the kydex.

I haven't found one I like yet. I've bought two, and don't care for either one. The first one I bought is too shallow for my PX4 compact mag and it digs into my side. The other is a sideways pouch and its just way too bulky. If I could find one like my first one that was about 1 inch longer I would be happy.

Look at a pouch that uses a fold over snap loop, the Desantis FTU or SS comes to mind. These form a sweat guard type thing when you fold the piece down to snap it on your belt. I just leave mine snapped and thread my belt through them. The FTU rides pretty much straight up and down, the SS model has a slight CANT to it. Neither one should dig in to you; I’m fairly trim and like the way they ride; I have both types; prefer the SS Model as I like the slight CANT it has a bit better. They are like $35 each but they work. R. grizzle makes this style too, there are others as well like these.

That DeSantis rig is nice but could cause confusion when reloading. Both mags aren't oriented the same direction. Are you wanting the leather strap for concealment of the magazines or for retention?

I have gone through several types of mag pouches and have finally found this one from The Wilderness that I really like. I use it for my Shield 9 mags and it has great retention and is very comfortable wearing horizontally on my belt. Being that I have a little gut and small overhang it gets uncomfortable to wear any mag in the vertical position anywhere in front of me. I wear this mag at about my 11 o'clock position with the mag baseplate sticking out to the left with bullet tips facing up - Option B as shown in the link. I've been meaning to get some for my G19 but just haven't done it yet.
