The military matches are some of the funnest imo. Usually most guys are really friendly and glad to help you. Be prepared to have fun. Don't worry about your score or get discouraged regardless of what it is.

If I had a military 30-06 I may even give it a try at least once.
But I do not have any old military or new military guns.
Military calibers yes.

What year(s) is/are considered "vintage?"

Just curious. :drunk2:
Just has to be a military bolt action. Original sights and stock. Most battle rifles are zero’d at 300 plus yards so taller front sight to get the gun on at 100 are allowed.
The guns are historic, some of the shooters are historic, I say that cause I’m one of the younger guys in my early 50’s. But, I get a shooting lesson, a history lesson and usually a loading lesson every time.

Hmmm... my old Eddystone (1916-ish?) has the original stock, but the fore-end has been cut down (I guess to "sporterize" it - lol, from a distance anyway).

I have a scope mounted on it, but I kept the original sight platform (lol, minus the "Cadillac" tail-fins) and have the original adjustable-elevation rear-sight for it. It still has the original front-sight as well.

So, theoretically... would it qualify if I removed the scope and stuck the old rear-sight back on?

Thanks. :drunk2:

Put the original sights on it, find a cheap front half of an SMLE and you’re golden

The rules are pretty simple.
You can free float the barrel, but cannot pillar bed.
You can smooth the trigger, but cannot replace parts.
Rifle needs to be in original, "rack" condition, as it would have been issued to a soldier.
Issue sights. Taller front sight is ok. No Williams peeps, or things like that.

At the monthly OKCGC match, it's fairly casual. I don't think anyone's going to ask you to tear down your rifle, but it needs to look issue.

The whole idea is to shoot these guns, not let them moulder in the closet.

Just get out, shoot, have fun.

Hmmm... seems kinda like an oxymoron on the sights. But apparently mine wouldn't fit the bill anyway because of the fore-end of the stock being cut off, and no original fins to protect the rear sight. Not to mention the recoil pad... :D

Thanks for the info, guys. As mentioned, I was just curious.

Happy shooting. :drunk2:
