Just wondering how many of you use a deer call or antlers to rattle in deer? I have been getting advice from a buddy from up north that does not seem to accept any of the aids as a plus. He seems to shut down any suggestion that I have, I have been trying to educate myself since this year is my first hunt since I was a child. He said that the calls and antlers are fro bow season and will not be needed for gun/rifle.

Tried em both. Neither scare the deer, they just look over and walk on.
I think the reason in my area is that we are overrun with does. Bucks don't need to fight for domination, all they need to do is move on to the next doe. They do fight as we have deer with broken tines late in the season but its not as normal as areas with a better buck to doe ratio.
This is just my personal observation, and not a scientific study by any means.

I have the Extinguisher grunt/doe bleet grunt call.
& let me tell you, it works for me.

I've had deer from at least 100 to 120 yards away change their direction & come running at me when I grunted on that tube.
I've even vocalized with young does,
I don't know what was being said, but it was pretty cool.
I have used it for both seasons with success, so if your buddy refuses any of the aids you mentioned to him, he must be a pure old school hunter & doesn't want to change. I know people like that too.

Three of the mature bucks ive killed were only because i bleated them in with a hot doe bleat. Two were bow in early November and one was a second weekend rifle hunt. Ive had good success over the years rattling in mature bucks as well but that can often be chaotic and difficult to get a shot with a bow. However, this season i have had zero response from rattling.
