Too bad you're not in my area. I'd be happy to have you clean some of mine. Just to get you started. Besides that way I would take more than one to the range and get to dirty em up!
That indeed is a shame, I just got done cleaning a marlin 60 (mine) and a savage 111 today (brothers Rifle).... it felt great to strip and clean the firearms in question, wish I had a way clean more of them :] anyone know how much one should charge as a beginner (material costs and overhead?)

Cost of Gunsmith work

I have some that ask why does it cost so must to do the work
Most Gunsmith do the work as a labor of love.

Here is why

1. A good to excellent gunsmith can work as Journeyman machinist in repair from $25.00 to $45.00 per hour in some else shop.
2. insurance per month is $2,000 to $4,000
3. Rent $500.00 and up
4. Power and gas $300.00 and up
5. Water and garbage $100.00
6. Licenses in CA. first Year $700.00
7. Advertising, Phone lines and Internet $100.00 to $1000 per month
8. health insurance $1,000
9. Lost time on phone, email and counter 35%

I have list the 9 most common costs.
one month there is only 170 hours this how it come out on cost

1. 170 hours X $35.00 per hour $5,950.00
2. insurance for one month........$3,000.00
3. Rent for one month..............$1,000.00
4. Power and gas...................... $300.00
5. Water and garbage ................$100.00
6. Licenses in CA. $700.00/12====$58.00
7. Advertising $400.00
8. health insurance $1,000
===============================
Total ==================$11,808.00
9. Lost time on phone, email and counter 35% or only work for 110 hours per month.

Cost per hour is $11,808/110 hours = $107 per hour
I do not know of any gunsmith that charges that high no one would have the work done. Just buy a new firearm.
Most of my work is done at $40.00 to $60.00 an hour good luck getting $60.00 hour

So as a noobie I should theoretically charge 25 to 35 dollars an hour per client until I'm known and experienced?

I don't know anything about it nor do I know of anyone who has attended:

Murray State College Gunsmithing Program
https://www.mscok.edu/academics/departments/gunsmithing-technology

I believe in your first post/starter post you mentioned you were "young". If so and no family go to this college ...get a loan , grant, or work anything in the area and go to this college. Scroll down on the page I posted/mscok and watch their video.

Just my 2 cents.

Maybe down the road when I have the income to put in... at the moment this would be done on my free time as to add to my experience and to supplement my dream

Have to agree with that. If your not married and no kids. Work whatever job/s you have to save as much as possible and move as soon as possible. The minute you have a wife and kids responsibilities change everything.
