You do not have to tell them it is a gun....or talk to the postmaster, ask to see the regs...on guns...only if on the list of non-mailable items,..gas, batteries, etc....nothing on guns...Your not lying to Congress. ...or the FBI

Do like Lee Harvey Oswald .....Tell'em they are ...."curtain rods"......

It's really bizarre to me that as an FFL I'm "required" to complete the USPS Form 1508, but private folks aren't . . . I'm always concerned that if I don't it'll be the ONE time something gets lost or stolen and filing a claim will be "fun".

Of course, I'm not sure why the 1508 is a thing . . . half of the counter folks don't know what it is or why I'm giving it to them.

I've actually had a pistol get shipped to me via USPS . . .

Pistols are not supposed to be shipped USPS. Right there in both ATF and USPS regulations. I know a guy who was going to be in Atlanta for a while and was traveling with acquaintances he didn’t want to know he was declaring a firearm at the airline counter. He shipped himself a pistol via USPS to the hotel and it arrived fine. He was taking a chance but it worked out fine. Kind of like concealed means concealed. It would be impossible to file a claim if lost or destroyed. I also recommend sending long guns via registered mail. An individual employee has to sign at each transfer point so it’s a little easier to track a claim if needed.

Ironically, the pistol that I bought on Gunbroker that was shipped via USPS was actually lost for a few days and I had to make a couple of trips to the Edmond Post Office to track it down.

Thankfully I haven't had anything firearms-related shipped via any service actually get lost or stolen . . . yet.

Seems I was told pistols have to be shipped overnight if USPS ...not sure on Fed Ex or UPS ...

Just insure it for it's value...if lost file claim. But yes Register mail is the best more $$$ ...but why go thru the trouble afterwards trying to save .75 .

Will check with Sooner . Have used the one in Norman before it closed and had a few guns shipped to them and was happy . I have shipped some "old" guns thru USPS but just told them it was antiques which was not a lie . First time used USPS even it being a rifle 140 years old rifle the lady their was hard to deal with cause to her a firearm is a firearm . I finally left and came back when someone else was there and just said antiques . What I may be shipping is a Mosin M-44 so I can't just mail it .

Q: May a nonlicensee ship a firearm by common or contract carrier?
A nonlicensee may ship a firearm by a common or contract carrier to a resident of his or her own State or to a licensee in any State. A common or contract carrier must be used to ship a handgun. In addition, Federal law requires that the carrier be notified that the shipment contains a firearm and prohibits common or contract carriers from requiring or causing any label to be placed on any package indicating that it contains a firearm.

I don't have a FFL or would . Have thought about getting it but most of the firearms I am interested in is the old stuff that can just box and mail . I am selling this one just to make room I in the gun safe . And I have 2 of them and finally decided to get rid of one of them .
