I suppose I should go out, but t'ain't likely. I really have no desire to mess with field dressing a deer (nor the back strength!). I've given away every deer I have shot for many years. I won't shoot one unless I know someone who wants it before I go out. If I went, the weather would have to be ideal, and I would much rather get a shot at a coyote! I would say bobcat, but my deer shack overlooks way too much open ground to expect to see a bobcat. In all these years, that's one thing I still have not taken - a bobcat. I have turned down some shots at cats during deer season, but those days are long gone!

Wow @dennishoddy, I had no idea it was that expensive an upper. It'll have to be a serious commitment for me. lol

When you order the hand lapped match grade barrel, it will put a serious dent in the checking account, but the performance of the system makes it all worth it.

DTech (Dedicated technology) turns out some quality stuff. I’ve got one of their proprietary 6mm DTI uppers that is a freakin laser beam. I tell everyone that will be my old man gun. Accurate and no recoil. It’s hell on varmints and I haven’t lost a deer with it yet.

Their magazines have the no-roll followers that they build inhouse. Brings to mind, I need to order another one or two.

I'm taking a 32yo first timer out in the morning. He likes deer meat and a month or two ago mentioned that he'd like to try getting his own deer. He came out to my range today, he has very little, if any, experience with a deer rifle. I started him out with the bolt action 22mag to get him familiar with things then switched to the .308. He was hitting the steel coyote just fine at 100 and also hit it at 300. Hopefully he can shoot that good in the field at a live animal without getting buck fever. We shall see. lol

Took my youngest, 15 year old, out for the first time on the 23rd. Never pushed either of my kids as I wanted it to be all their choice. Was gone from Nov 22nd up until Dec 20th. No real prep at my parents 20 acres and just siting amongst some logs and along comes a doe but still about 15 minutes from legal shooting time. As this one walked off my son’s alarm on his phone goes off and he gets the death stare because dad asked and he reassured that all alarms were off and phone on airplane mode. Only wanted it for the clock. Figured our chance of a shot was lost but didn’t let him know that’s what I thought. Well right at shooting time up walks a doe and just strolls up to within 25 yards of us and turns broadside facing away. I have him all set up and he clams up and tells me to take the shot. I tell him I’m there for him to get a deer and that I’ll get one later. After a little back and forth I realize he’s not quite ready so I shoulder his 6.5 CM and squeeze one off. She jumps and runs about 50 yards before finding her final resting place. Son got a crossbow for Christmas today and some cabela’s gift cards so we’re off to Fayetteville to get some broad heads and anything else we can convince the wife we “need” and then planning to go back out with the rifle and crossbow for the rest of the season.
