I have to say, I don't think the state should legalize it for recreational use. I think the federal government needs to get their heads out of their hind quarters and legalize it for any and all use and treat it (and tax it) just like alcohol. I know a lot more people that have had negative affects on their lives because of alcohol than with marijuana and alcohol is perfectly legal.

If I want to sit around and get baked and eat Cheetos and play Xbox all day, as long as I'm of legal age I should be able to do just that.

Here, but occasionally There.
I don't know the specifics of the licensing, but I've noticed a billboard down on I-44 south of OKC facing the northbound lanes that advertises an online source for one to get a medical MJ card. If it is online, does the "applicant" even have to see a doctor? Does this "doctor" even live in this state and have to pay licensing fees to the state?

You don't have to physically visit a doctor to "see" a doctor--that's kind of the whole point of the field of telemedicine.

Thanks beardking for clearing that up. I’ll be honest, I haven’t read all the laws. I agree with Blake711 though. Tax the hell out of it. Actually, the point to my post was there are plenty of people taking advantage that the state never got the fees for the MM card.
When you tax the hell out of it, bubba on the street corner will sell higher strength pot at a cheaper price. We found that out years ago after a trip to Colorado when we saw legal dispensaries with no traffic. Guy waiting on our table said bubba with no taxes is king in Colorado.
The legal trade in pot is from out of state buyers.
We stay in Antonito Co in the summers. 700 residents with three recreational dispensaries as they are just a few miles from the New Mexico border. We drive by them all the time seeing most of the tags being from out of state in the parking lot.
Commiefornika is whining they don't get enough tax money from buyers. Again Bubba on the street corner is undercutting the state stuff.
I've posted links to both of those states in the past a couple of times to back that up.

I'm surprised yall aren't more upset by prescription costs...
Pot cures cancer, dementia, pimples, jock rash and a just about any malady that the body can conjure. Just look at the CBD ads and testimonials.
No need for pharms any more. Pharms are for old folks, all the smart hipsters know CBD cures everything.

I’m surprised by people saying “tax the hell out of it.” I thought we were generally a group of people who believed in lowering taxes? Are we really just like the democrats who want to heavily tax an industry we don’t like? Plenty of people on this forum would cry government overstep if additional taxes were levied on firearms or ammo in this state. Am I the only one seeing a double standard?

Your correct. That's why bubba on the street corner should be revered and worshiped. He is saving this country from the gubberment.

Where is Clay on this thread ?.........

It should be legal, over 21 just like booze.... medical should be no-tax with a card.

It is being sold now untaxed. Sold from homes, cars, people on the corners....this way it is more controlled, sold in store fronts, taxed, workers now on payroll. More stable business for supporting business,...growing supplies, etc.

$40,000,000 in licensure fees alone for users in the first year of so-called 'medical' legalization. You can bet the state isn't going to want to give that money up no-way, no-how.

Would need about $300M in ADDITIONAL marijuana sales to make up that shortfall, at 15% tax rate.

I just don't see the state .gov getting behind the effort in the least.
I don't think anybody ever expected the state.gov to get behind any pot legalization. We had to petition to get medical pot, state didn't help. And as far as taxes, I read and article about California having illegal sales jumping up, because the legal pot was so high to purchase people bought illegal pot cheaper. I say just legalize it, and charge sales tax. Everybody wants to complicate recreational fun. And if I want to grow it in my house or land there is no tax.
