I’m interested in trying out other stuff, but I try to stay in the budget side. I already have an expensive hobby (guitars) for the last 40 years. My wife puts up with me up to a point with guns, lol.

I usually go shoot over at AAT. My buddy used to invite me over to the Tri-Cities range, but unfortunately he passed away recently after a tragic motorcycle accident. I’m not familiar with Lex.

Sorry to hear about your friend.
Lexington is on Corps of Engineer land. It's an outdoor range that has recently been refurbished. Your required to have an Oklahoma hunting license to shoot there. The Game wardens check it on a regular basis from what I hear.

Well, after Deer Archery ends I start heading back that way again, Lexington Wildlife Management Area rifle range and pistol ranges are free to use.

Thanks, I’ll look into it. Getting a license is not a problem. I think it was Lexington I went to with my buddy to a gun dealer out there. The guy was closing down his business, but he still had a lot of nice stuff. I’ve lived in Norman several years, but I work in OKC so I still haven’t explored some of the smaller towns around the area.

Are there any targets out there in Lexington or do you have to bring your own? Are there certain days that is open?

I've never been there but from reading older posts on this forum, it is open 7 days a week, and is a clean range meaning your required to bring your own target stands and targets.

My 'go to' shotgun has always been my Browning "Humpback" A5 12 ga. that I bought back in the late 70's......between ducks, geese, quail, doves, pheasants and rabbits it has more than earned it's keep.

Anyway back to low priced shotguns, I got into turkey hunting pretty hot and heavy back in the 80's and 90's and I didn't want to put camo tape on my Humpback and I figured all I'd need was one shot anyway so I picked up a used 3" chamber, single shot, 28" barrel, 12 ga., full choke H & R Topper for next to nothing........darn good little shotgun and I took several turkeys with it.

Last Sunday my wife had an errand to run out to in Lexington so we decided to try to find this range. We followed Google maps which said “ You have arrived at your destination” the moment we turned off Hwy 9 onto Slaughterville Rd. Of course, there was nothing there. We stopped at a nearby convenience store and the clerk told us it was 5-6 miles down the road. We drove down there and found the entrance to the Wildlife Management area, but there was a sign that said the range was 3.25 miles further down the road, then 3 miles east. We were not successful finding it with those directions. We eventually gave up and went home.

Anybody got better directions? Maybe I need latitude and longitude.
