We currently have a ISP and the package we pay for is supposed to be 6 up and 6 down and costs us $77 bucks a month.. Well we very rarely see that performance and I'm getting rather irritated paying for something I'm not getting.. The ISP fellow comes off as a nice and pleasant fellow so I have followed suit.. But I have put out the truth that we're being over charged for the service being delivered.. I regularly check the speed and it never comes close to the stated service.. Are there more options available to us ?
It honestly depends on where you are as to what services are available. One key phrase that will be included on any internet package is "up to" they never guarantee minimum speed.
Now if you are not too awful far from town and have line of sight to a friend or family members house where good internet access is available setting up a wireless link is always an option. You may not get the same speed at your home as what is available at the main uplink point but it will likely be faster and should be fairly reliable. I have done something similar for someone else and he went from having a Verizon MiFi that cut to dialup speeds after a week or two to having a 25Mbps download that was pretty stable and a lot more reliable till real service was available.

I'll have to get with my southern neighbor and find out if he has service from Wind stream, which I hear is pretty good speed wise.. Wind stream terminates about a 1/4 mile south of us or we would have taken it 3 years ago.. As of now we have a "radio" on the roof shooting to this ISPs tower.. We are up high so we can see for miles north, south and east.. Thank you, I recall reading what you did for Tony / Freddy and if I my neighbor is connected I'm sure to be hollering at ya.. I am in the same boat as all of you living out in the country with little options. Have had a couple different cell phone internet connections, and a couple expensive satellite systems that drop out when a cloud comes over. Back on cell phone hot spot now 20G max/mo then throttled to dial up speed.
My self, I am waiting on the Judge to rule on the Sprint / T-mobile merger hopefully in the next few weeks. If that is approved, all hell might break loose for central united states as far as fast inexpensive internet services along with TV and phone service that are only future rumors now. Dish Network will be and even the big G company may be involved. They have Google FI phones now using Sprint/T-mobile/and Us Cellular now. with decent monthly packages 22GB internet/phone that could be used for a hot spot and no contract.
Owner of Dish who is also close to 51% stockholder of Direct TV says they are not going to put up any more satellites to replace aging units. They are going to do all of rural US ground based. I have been told those systems are quietly being built now in the background prepping for this merger, I am sure they have a plan B if it fails since they are already investing heavily in equipment. Just waiting for using the joint spectrum frequencies.
So, I am dragging on here, waiting to see what happens next. I definitely am not going to get hooked into any 24mo contract with anyone until I see how this shakes out. If my local cell tower clicked new equipment on one day soon that had 5G real unlimited internet, all the satellite TV channels and cell service for a reasonable price, it will be a game changer.

We are fortunate that a local company runs our rural internet access. It's not gaming fast internet we currently have, but good enough for shopping and forum type internet.
Just today, it was announced they will be partnering with a company in Enid to provide even faster service to us.

I have lived with the crappy internet service described here for 18 years, now also my rural electric company is string fiber to home internet heading my way in about 12-14 months. Been doing sections form Tahlequah heading my way and have already been in my area replacing shorter poles over roadways. Have to see what get here first the fiber to house or the 5G
We have been limited to wireless by antenna pointed at the water tower 3 miles away that you can only see from the top of the barn. The 3rd company to come along actually delivers the 10MB we pay for. Pinged is their name and I think they are expanding pretty rapidly, at least NW of OKC.
