Well, I'm stuck on my AR9 build. I have a cheap clamshell upper vise block and it won't fit over my spikes AR9 upper. At first I thought it was just the shell deflector, but after notching it to fit the front is shaped wrong. Anybody have a good, non-clamshell style, vise block to recommend? And the bev block won't work since its a 9mm with no locking lug. Also not looking to spend over $50 if possible.

And yes, I did the google search and found several, just seeing what the knowledgeable peeps here use and recommend.

I’ve got the one picture below. It’ll hold uppers in a couple different ways. Didn’t cost much and is made pretty good in my opinion of quality. I’m no pro ar builder.

MAGPUL BEV™ Block – AR15/M4
YOU WOULD BE WELCOME TO USE IT BUT I THINK YOUR A LITTLE FAR AWAY.

Won't work for this, the AR9 does not have a locking lug. But I appreciate it!

That's the one I use.

I'm looking at that one or another style that has a mass of metal to simulate the bolt and provide support. There is about $30 difference between it and the Delta version, so gotta make up my mind.

Newbie AR builder here. I'm confused, I thought tanis said a bev block wouldn't work for his build?
EDIT: my confused state of mind and question got cleared up before I got it typed.

Clamshell device won't work because of the lower style. The Wheeler block that cow catcher showed uses the forward pivot pin and the rear release pin that is universal for any AR upper.
It’ll also grab the upper by the rail if equipped. Although, I’ve never used it in such a way. Well, you mentioned having the same one so this is useless info to yourself.
