Space x has a history of exploding boosters. Let's hope this will be the exception.
Do we need to post a list of all of NASA's explosions, crashes, failures and deaths too?

1st time a private company has placed astronauts in orbit.
1st launch from US territory since 2011.
1st time astronauts have flown on a 1st stage vehicle booster using superchilled liquid oxygen.
Superchilled oxygen is denser so more can be loaded into the tanks but it also means the booster be fueled at the last minute, with the Dragon capsule already manned.
Snazzy new spacesuits out of a sciFi movie too.

When obama turned NASA into a weather reporting agency, costing thousands their jobs, I actually thought it was going to be a great idea to have competition among the private sector until I realized it wasn't going to be private industries risking their own capitol to create competition. Just more politics as usual.

Don't confuse starhopper with the falcon9/dragon program.
Starhopper is the large stainless steel rocket designed to carry dozens of people to Mars being developed in TX.
It's more of a design and concept project than anything else at this point.
Dragon and Boeing's offering are an extension of what President Bush (not Obama) put in motion way back in 2004. We knew that the shuttle was near the end of it's service life.
In 2004, we also realized our cost of building it's replacement under the cold war model was prohibitive, and that we needed to change the model. The Bush admin came up with the Commercial Orbital Transportation Services concept (COTS). Private companies would be recruited and receive help with development costs to design systems that would deliver cargo and ultimately personnel to the ISS. NASA would kick in $$ as would the private enterprise....that's exactly what is happening with Dragon. NASA did not fund the entire project. Dragon is jointly funded by public and private money.
Here's hoping for a successful launch this week and a new era of American dominance.
