My wife has been getting LC’d about every 4 shifts at the heart hospital. Since elective surgery was shut down, all the chest painers,as they call them, disappeared. When things opened back up, people were afraid to get in anything medical related. It was just picking back up but it looks like we’re headed back. It hasn’t affected us because my wife has plenty of PTO but the people that abused their time are at risk of being docked.

Kinsa smart thermometer representative was interviewed on NPR a few days ago.
He claims their internet connected thermometers can indicate local outbreaks about 2 weeks before they show up in CDC numbers.
During the interview he said the 2 states reporting the fastest spikes in new fevers are OK and MO.
I guess we will find out.

I heard another person talking about OK & MO temperatures and the expected spike. I don't understand the "internet connected thermometers". What is that, what is being measured? Anyone know anything about this thought? It sounds interesting

After all of the layoffs because of lack of patients and scheduled surgeries etc. it is probably a welcome thing for nurses and staff.
This was my 1st thought. I was wondering if they were full at the staffing levels they have now or at the staffing BEFORE the layoffs/furloughs.

My daughter is a nurse and hasn't mentioned anything being different.

The people that run our country today won't listen to medical professionals.

I assume you mean "won't listen to medical professionals I happen to agree with today"?

The "medical professionals" the people are listening to have changed their positions so often they essentially *have* no position now.

I talked with an RN at the gun range today. I think he is associated with Mercy and he said that Mercy was full.

Edit: He did say that they are not needing the ICU. They have found they can treat with oxygen instead of needing a ventilator.
That depends on the severity of the illness for the specific patient. Some don’t need O2, some only need O2, some need to be ventilated, some need ECMO.

The spike in findings is because they are testing more, that simple. IC Bus and Whirlpool both had free testing 2 weeks ago. That's about 3000 folks and there were other large employers that tested as well. They both came back with about 10% infected rate. SO 300 "case spike". These were people at work, working, everyday, who didn't even realize they may have it. No one there was passing out or dying. Panic unwarranted.

Not exactly true. The percent positive of all tests (doesn't matter how many test are performed) has been going up. From OSDH weekly Epidemiological Report:

Percent positive 6-25.png

My wife is an RN at a large elective surgery center, shes PRN. About 4 weeks after they shut down elective surgery, we applied for unemployment. She's been working about 1 day a week for the past month though. She might be able to get 2-3 days, but it wouldn't be more than around 20 hours, and with no child care to take them to (family who is in the at risk category), its just not worth the few extra hours.

She might want to move to ER or Critical Care. My wife can pick up as many hours as she wants any time. Tugs at your soul though. Think she'll go to something else like L&D next.

The small hospital she's at has cut all their nurses down, and rotate them all into ICU shifts to catch up on their hours, they just don't have the demand. She's a surgery nurse, and people aren't quick to get back in for surgeries yet. It's brutal. Just glad the refinery hasn't laid off my BIL. They'll survive.
