Well people, Today I pulled the trigger,,,
And turned in my paperwork to retire from OK State University.

I started as a student in the Fall of 1998,,,
Then got hired as a student worker in the Spring of 2000.

I graduated with a BS in Occupational Education in December of 2001.

Then I started on a Masters degree in January of 2002,,,
I was hired as a graduate assistant that same month.

Graduated with a Masters in Curriculum Design in December of 2004,,,
I was hired as a full-time employee by my college in January of 2005.

So here I am, 15 years later, and saying it's time to "Call it a Career"

This is possibly the most unnerving thing I've ever done,,,
I'll turn 69 this November and haven't been out of a job (for more than a month) since I was 14.

I'm looking forward to not having an alarm clock wake me up,,,
But I also wonder how long I can go without a purpose before I go insane.

I wrote the intent to retire e-mail at 8:30 this morning,,,
Then stared at the send button for over an hour before I clicked it.

My life changed forever with one click of a mouse,,,
There's no turning back now.

I do know what my first project will be,,,
That's to manicure this jungle of a yard I live in.

Not so much landscape the yard,,,
But more to clear it completely and find my fences again.

I live alone in a very small town out in the boonies,,,
I'm fairly certain I'll sell eventually and move into Stillwater again.

I live in an old mobile that is comfy but very raggedy,,,
My real estate friends say to not put one penny in the mobile.

They say the one thing I can do to make my place saleable,,,
Is to get the yard and trees completely taken care of.

The idea is that when a prospective buyer first sees it,,,
They will notice that they won't have to do anything to the yard.

That job alone will take me 3 months of grunt labor,,,
I do plan on getting a lot more plinking time in at my rifle/pistol club.

I'll probably try and find a part-time job somewhere,,,
Maybe a retail clerk job just to get out and talk to people.

I don't know,,,
This is all very scary to me.

I'll be okay for money,,,
Not rich but I won't be eating dog food.

My main concern is boredom leading to ennui.

I retired at 70, had worked almost constantly since in the 6th grade an got my first paper route. I was very much afraid about retiring, but with my education and experience I felt I could go back to work if necessary. Glad I took the chance, never really looked back, have enjoyed life much more since then.

Go for it, if nothing else you can substitute teach. lol
