Don't get me wrong - I'm not saying anything AGAINST training. I don't think we should HAVE to, but I do advocate it, and I have done some extra training - though not as much as I should, no. I think most people who do SOME training realize how much more they SHOULD do. Not discouraging anyone from pursuing training at all.

Have you had any vehicle specific firearms training or ever practice deploying your gun inside a vehicle under pressure? I’d hazard that 99.9% of people that leave guns inside their cars haven’t and it would be a total dumpster fire watching them try to access those guns in the extremely rare instance they would need to.

It was a question about your specific experience and practices for preparing for a carjacking. Interesting that you chose to take it as an attack on your intelligence and right to exercise your rights rather than answer the question.

I have. Both on the clock on a dynamic range (to include shooting through glass) and IRL. I have a witness who will testify that I am indeed capable of executing a superb draw from concealment while belted in a bucket seat, WHILE executing a full power 4 wheel drift through an intersection as four ne'er-do-wells attempted to attack our vehicle just East of Nashville.

What questions do you have about the subject?

I have no choice but to vehicle carry or go unarmed. I have a lock box cabled to the back seat frame and hidden under the seat if I have to leave both the firearm and vehicle accessible to anyone not under my direct supervision. It rarely gets used. Most of the time it's in the glove box in the locked truck, in an access restricted parking lot with CCTV coverage and LE patrols. The only other time it's left in the vehicle is in the locked truck, in my locked garage with CCTV coverage and vigilantly monitored by my 6# yapping alarm system (who knows anytime someone is in the garage).

If anyone gets my firearm after defeating these security measures, I will feel absolutely zero guilt about it. I will not accept any culpability should a felon commit harm, with property they stole from me after breaking and entering my secured property without my consent. Further, I won't accept anyone else's judgement of me for balancing the safety and security needs of me an my family as I've deemed appropriate. You're entitled to your own opinions, but not your own "facts".

Modern vehicles simply aren't designed to accommodate rapid access secure storage solutions and I refuse to go unarmed in today's world. If in the future there are mobile secure storage solutions which will allow rapid access to my firearm WHILE operating my vehicle, I will absolutely adopt and implement them. Until then, my choice is as valid as anyone's.

As always these threads degrade quickly into high school level insults and bickering. So to participate but hopefully at a slightly higher level I will add this....

the gun is always your responsibility if it is IWB, laying on the floor in 3 year olds bedroom, or in the console on that F-150, it is your responsibility. If you want to have a deadly force option in your car either have it on you or practice getting it from the hiding place and on a threat without sweeping the muzzle over your legs, crotch, or a passenger.
You will not “rise to the occasion” when your blood pressure hits 200 and your pants are full of ****, you will default to your training.

if you must occasionally leave a firearm in your vehicle get rid of the Glock, Sig, and AR decals on the back window, and lock it up. I Carry everyday...pants on gun on. And I go places where I cannot legally carry so I have a lock box that slides under the drivers seat. Years ago I had a S&W 686 stolen from under the drivers seat in a locked vehicle, while parked in the driveway at a friends house in Odessa Texas. Several days later it was used in a crime. This will Never Happen to me again.... never..

Two things....

If someone steals my property, I no longer have care, custody, and control. It is NOT my responsibility. If someone steals my car and gets in a high speed chase and kills someone, I'm not responsible. This doesn't mean I leave a gun in the front seat in an unlocked car, but let's place the blame and responsibility where it goes.

While I agree with getting training, everyone should if they have the means, I think we need to stop the narrative that everyone will "piss their pants" or "freeze" in a tough situation. I'm pretty sure Kyle Rittenhouse had little Self Defense Rifle training. But he managed to defend himself with a budget AR and garbage optics. Again, I'm all for training, especially for those that carry. However, I'm not going to bark at people telling them how they should go about protecting theirs.

This brings up a question, or maybe an observation about society. How often are guns seen by their owners as a talisman?

It kind of goes with the idea of those (careless, IMO) back window decals of guns brands, 5.56 stickers, AR silhouettes, etc.. Even the punisher stickers carry an association that could be associated with gun ownership.

Because you can see the angle used by some gun owners right? If they simply advertise to the world that they have a gun, then maybe the criminals will stay away. (although we know this just opens them up to the really bold criminals who don't care)

More than not. Too many Fudds think potential targets are gonna sit still, or wait for you to draw, or let you know when something's going to happen. Just as many claim "BLM comes to MY neighborhood, they better bring body bags". Whatever....criminals and communists are not gonna warn you they're coming, they're not gonna sit still for you, and they will shoot back, try to cut you, steal your car, rape your dog, you get the idea.

I would never discourage folks from putting gun stickers on their vehicles though - makes thieves want to break in their car, not mine.

I'm cool with guns in the car locked or unlocked it's your property. I'm cool with folks who have zero training in vehicle presentation or fighting from a vehicle. It's a free country. As for me I hold a post graduate degree from Gunsite Academy and if my gun is not on me it is not in my vehicle. I will stipulate I do sometimes take my primary and stick it in the console to go in the post office or local court house. not my 2nd gun but my primary
