Man, hope you heal up. Losing 30% lung capacity is no joke. I hope you get it back.

That’s one reason, despite all the posturing, that I mostly wear a mask when I go out in crowded areas. No point in taking the risk. Everyone always gets fixated on the mortality rates, but the lasting affects some survivors are experiencing is concerning.

It was my understanding that a mask doesnt do much to prevent you from getting it, it just helps prevent you from spreading it?

There are passionate discussions on both sides of the equation as to whether or not they are helpful. If wearing a mask can prevent my parents from getting it and dying, I hope everyone wears one. I wear one and have gone through a ton of hand sanitizer. The bonus has been that I haven’t caught a cold all year!

This is common with covid it seems, in some patients but not all. Depends on which strain one gets. My gal had no lung isues but her mom ended up in the hospitol on O2 and came home recently also with an O2 bottle for now.

I read somewhere that the ventilator they put us on can also cause lung and heart problems.

Before and after: Im home still recovering. Super weak. Lost about 30% of lung function. Hopefully some will come back. Can't walk about 10ft without running out of breath and the nonstop couching is hell. This **** aint no joke. Thanks for all your concern

Again, I'm no doctor but I would like to share my experience to possibly help.

My pulmonologist doc and physical therapist have me trying to "exercise" while I am still on oxygen. The theory is creating a demand for my lungs to work so they rebound. My lower left lung won't inflate and I'm still on oxygen. I'm to use my pulse ox on my finger and keep it above 90 while I walk. I think it's working because I was able to use the restroom today without losing my breath. It's the small victories! I know you're tired and have little motivation but don't sit around in a chair all day. Move as much as you can without dropping your oxygen. Also, drink plenty of water because that is suppose to help by staying hydrated.

This "long haulers" crap is real. Just prepare yourself that its a long road to recover for some survivors. It's been a hard pill for me to swallow because pre-ICU I was a healthy non-smoking 53 yr old who went 90 miles per hour from 430am until 10pm. Now I'm lucky to walk outside for a few minutes and look at my dream car my wife bought me when I got out of the hospital.

It does. My premature grandsons (remember when the triplets were born??) had to be put on a vent when they were born. One of them had a stroke and died. The explanation was the increase in pressure was just too much for his immature vascular system and it caused a stroke and that was a fairly common occurance. The other 2 have some breathing problems, one worse than than than the other, but they both do okay.
