I'll soon be selling a few of my hand guns. Top shelf and I'll be fair on the prices

When LoneWolf'49 passed we (and another gun couple) spent the day helping his wife figure out what he had stashed and what it was worth. Then when folks started showing up to buy stuff I got so mad I could have bit the heads off a bunch of nails. Some guys (even some guys from here) are just assholes. They were low-balling her like crazy. I will NOT let that happen to Mrs. RickN. You tell her to call me and Scott. I'll kick ass and name names ... That kind of stuff infuriates me.
Sadly I have seen this behavior (with guns and other items) and it sure does p--- me off.
It doesn't have to be a death either.
I've seen a person get sick or injured to where they probably won't be hunting with hard kicking rifles any more and upon hearing the news, here come their so-called FRIENDS to low-ball them on the guns.
The "friends" don't even call and offer to pick up anything they might need from the store or run an errand for them, just show up with a quick "sorry to hear about your health" before making an insulting offer on "that old ---- (gun)" that's not supposed to be worth much.
Sometimes gun enthusiasts are the biggest illegitimate children in the world.

Why not keep a spreadsheet listing your firearms and current market prices of each, and update it periodically? That way when you kick the bucket at the ripe old age of 100+, your wife can use the spreadsheet as a reference while selling stuff.
Spreadsheet with price of paid/ approx value/ description should be kept with most any collection is a good idea.

I have a blank, ruled Walther Notebook in which I have detailed each one by model, serial number, and caliber. This it, laying under my PPK-L in 7.65 (32ACP). Well built and quite attractive young Frauleine is also on the cover.

This is one of the reasons I am severely trimming the herd down. I don’t want to leave a pain in the ass for my wife to have to go thru and try and sell, and have her call one or more of my friends and have them pick thru my stuff like cardinals picking out sunflower seeds from a feeder. The simple fact that holds true for far more men here then they realize , is that our wives like guns far more less Then we think they do; they humor our passion far more than we think. if they didn’t know they held value, they’d Chuck em out in the trash.

Well, what are you waiting for? Move the pistol and post another pic of the notebook...

You are so right. I've been thinking of starting the process myself for quite some time, just haven't done it. Maybe that should be my New Year's resolution (if I made 'em).

This reminds me that it's time to update my record book. Need to add some pictures too.

I have a record book with all the serial #'s, price paid and current value. Glad I read this thread cause I'm falling behind. It's been along time since I have updated it and many guns probably 2 dozen have been added. Not for being sold though one of my sons is a bigger gun nut than me he will inherit all but a few that will go to grandchildren.
