One of the best deals I ever got was on a generator a couple of years ago. My neighbor asked me if I needed a generator ? I had two that are around 8000 watts each. So I told him no. He said where he worked they were selling off Honda 2000 watt Industrial inverter generator ones for $400. That changed my mine and I told him I'd take one. I talked to him a few days later and told him to pick through those generators and get me a good one. He said he didn't need to because they were all new. He said when they were bought at work they unbox them ,put a little gas in them ,check the oil, and test run them, and put them back in the box. I didn't really need it but, I couldn't pass that one up. And before anyone ask, it ain't for sale.
Do they do this every couple years? I want my name on the list.

A project that has been on the back burner some time because we knew that we were going to move. Now that we finally done it maybe I’ll get it installed. I have the tank mostly built and a controller/annunciation mostly designed

This is what popped into my head...

I bought a 5500W generator at Lowes right after Ice-Mageddon, back when was it? 2007? 2009? I forget. Regardless, it hasn't been used out of necessity since.

That's when I bought mine . . . we've had to use them 3-4 times for several days. Thankfully Cimarron Electric Cooperative has gotten much more reliable over the years.

Same. Only problem is the wife will not let me keep full gas cans around for it.

Just some food for thought. One thing I always do with all of these single cylinder, overhead valve engines. Be it my Westinghouse Generators, or my Kohler powered pressure washer. Is after I shut them down, I always lightly pull on the recoil starter until I feel compression. What this does is make sure both the intake and exhaust valves are closed. (Engine on the compression stroke). This relaxes both valve springs.

If your storing the unit for several weeks or months, it help keeps the valve lash from going out of whack over time. If you run the engine daily, or even weekly you don't have to bother. I always do because I've gotten into the habit.

Not doubting you. Just tagging @swampratt as he always has some good information like this.

I have an older Coleman 5kw that keeps us in heat, water, and accessory power but just ordered a new 7.5KW Champion from Lowes with a their military discount. That's do everything I need with capacity to spare.

I think you're gonna' like that Champion. I got the 7500 watt from Atwoods just before the Great Halloween Ice Storm of '20 and have had zero problems with it. Electric start and dual fuel made it a no brainer. It sure makes a lot of noise, but it makes a lot of electricity, so I can forgive the noise part.
