Agreed that everyone starts at 0.

But to help sort the wheat from the chaff - how about asking them to become a supporting member?
Then let them do 80% of the driving too.

Like Mac said, we all have to start somewhere. If you're worried about them not showing up, then I'd make sure that they done the traveling instead of me.
Exactly. I’ve been stood up a couple times when I did the meet halfway thing. Now my halfway meetup spot is 4 miles from the house.

Funny, I've only had one bad experience dealing here on OSA. He was a well established, very popular member here and I was the newb. He totally backed out on the deal after telling me we were good to go.

That being said, I try to deal mostly with well established members.

Now for a scope...If I didn't have to go out of my way and the dude didn't seem flaky on a phone call...I probably wouldn't worry too much.

I might have to ask them why they contacted me when I couldn't find even a single post from them here though. That's kinda fishy.

it is not hard to talk to someone on the phone, ask them to text an id, or just chat for a bit, I know voice to voice is unusual this day and age, but it goes a long ways for both parties. Don't let fear cost either party. and there are easily applied safety measures. if anything feels hinky call a no go and carry on, take a buddy or something.
