In the little experience I’ve had tiggin aluminum, it’s a slower weld. That aluminum will take a bunch of heat. You gotta fire up and let it soak before you start stacking them dimes. Steel wants to get hot in one spot and try to burn through with too much heat. You need more heat with aluminum cuz it disperses the heat much quicker through the entire workpiece. That’s just what it seems like to me.
Aluminum requires pure tungsten don’t worry about sharpening it if you preheat the aluminum it will weld better

That's the truth about aluminum dispersing the heat. Just be careful, because as the work piece heats up, you will need to reduce the heat and/or speed up the welding.

I have entered the TIG underground. Just got this delivered to me today. I guess I got the last one. Ha!
The main reason I got it is because this is the model my son has and we can corroborate between us.
Where do you guys get your Argon cylinders and gas? Airgas?

really depends on what supply is closeby. smaller bottles are typically customer owned, most suppliers exchange with no fuss. go with Airgas labeled bottles if you have a choice. airgas will exchange with no fuss. make sure bottle is in test date or you get charged for retest.

most desirable are bottles with no markings on neck ring. those are 100% customer owned. make darn sure you get a no mark bottle back.

I always thought they were serial numbered and they refilled them.
Some folks prefer to own the bottles in which case yes you wait for it to be refilled. I prefer to lease the bottle. It’s not a particular bottle so exchanges are quick and easy.

I use a local welding supply/testing facility.
