The deputy could have towed it. Sounds like he’s avoiding making a report and doing the impound forms. It’s an abandoned vehicle on your property without your permission. Would he leave it there if it was left in someones front yard?
Depends. Was it time for a shift change?

You seem to have missed how wet the field is... towing it now would do more harm than good.
:drunk2:

I got that. The part where he said “he can’t tow it because it’s on private property” is BS. It always irritated me when another officer looked for excuses to not do their job.

The deputy said “It’s on private property so I can’t have it towed”. In that same line he mentioned there hadn’t been a crime committed so there wasn’t much he could do. I thought trespassing and tearing ruts in a hayfield should be some sort of crime. Lol

Yeah we don’t want that right now anyhow since it’s wet.
The deputy kinda winked and also said we could drag it to the road ditch, report it being there and then it’d get towed”

Yeah we might do that. He also said a wrecker company would probably happily come pick it up when things dry up and the do like mentioned above where they deal with the owner or sellin it to recoup their “expenses”. That’s probably what we will do. Let things dry up, wrecker goes in and loads it and we just forget about it.
If you make them tow it off private property you have to pay the tow bill. Your tractor and a chain could do as deputy said and find itself upon the road right-of-way as a traffic hazard. Ticketed and towed off after 24 hours abandoned. Easy peasy.
Please do not ransack or vandalize the car. You might be involved in something you don't want to be involved in later on down the road and you might get something that would scare hell out of penicillin.

Wipe your fingerprints off of it. Ain't know telling what that car has been involved in. Have you popped the trunk yet? Just wondering.....
We hauled the deputy out to look it over on our side by side. He checked inside and wrote the vin down. He mentioned he’d like to pop the trunk and I found a button on the dash but it being an electric button I assume we needed keys to turn the ignition on. There was damage to the trunk lid and the deputy was able to look through a gap along one side of the lid and said he didn’t see anybody hiding in there.
