I'd be willing to be present for a build class and help with the do's and more importantly the don'ts. I can bring my tools. I recommend the clamshell upper receiver vise WITH the insert, I'm not a fan of the tool that fits in the barrel extension. It will only work with mil-spec uppers, it won't work with a lot of the high end uppers. I've never needed a lower vise block. You can make a front takedown pin detent tool, I can bring mine. As for the AR-10 platform, there is no "mil-spec" and dimensions and tolerances differ greatly within and between manufacturers. For instance- Armalite makes one lower that takes Magpul mags and another one that doesn't.
For a non standard receiver, I think the safest way is to clamp between two strips of nylon cutting board. That said, I use a reaction rod almost exclusively, and it's never given me any problems. Unless the barrel nut is way overtorqued I think they're pretty safe.

Correct. I actually machined a set of upper receiver blocks for an AR-10 and a non-standard AR-15 uppers out of Delrin. (Fancy word for "cutting board")

Midwest Industries makes a 308 Reaction, if I ever decide to do a 308 build I will be ordering one of them for the same reasons that I have the standard URR.

What kind of rail would I need for a magpul angled fore grip? The hand guard I purchased doesn’t have a rail on the bottom.
It depends, they make those for picatinny and mlok. What handguards did you buy?

Small FYI on the AFG, they're not super comfy or all that helpful. They're kind of like pistol braces in the sense that they're a compromise to get around NFA regs. You can't legally put a forward grip on an AR pistol without registering it as an NFA weapon of one kind or another, so people put the angled grips on them because they don't meet the ATF's interpretation of what constitutes a forward grip.

So anyhoo, I would look into an actual forward grip instead.

Do you have to do any special registration for a forward grip here in Oklahoma? I haven’t bought any yet.

Thanks for the info! It just so happens mine will have a 16” barrel. I will probably buy one of each if I have room in the budget.

The only reason there would be a restriction is if you were building an AR pistol with a barrel shorter than sixteen inches. My understanding is that the angled fore grips are ok on pistols but vertical are a no go. Someone correct me if I am wrong on that.
