Whear do you start if you are in Tulsa? Last time I tried to get anything from the VA they told me I didn't sign up soon enough or was past some cutoff date. Viet Nam vet US Navy, 4 years around jets, I for sure could use hearing aids but can't afford what the retail places charge.
Posted this in another thread a while back with no response. Went back to the VA web site, it remembered me from when I was turned down in 2008 but didn't find anything on hearing aids. Should I call the number on the VA web site or will that just make me more frustrated?

For whatever reason sometimes VA claims are denied the first time but get approved when refiled so if you haven't already done so lately submit or resubmit a VA form 21-526-EZ.

It was suggested to me not call the VA but to copy the online available 21-526EZ form and to submit the form in paper as opposed to sending it online making sure to make copies of everything prior to mailing it in for your records."Omit Nothing", fill in every required blank, (dot every 'I' and cross every 'T') and be sure to send copies of any and every form that is requested.

Along with your hearing loss if you also suffer from tinnitus (ringing in the ears) that you feel is related to your military service be sure to note that.

Most local VFW's will help vets fill out the forms properly so you may want to contact your local VFW if you feel that you need help filling out the forms.

I received my first and so far only hearing aids from the VA in Jan. 2016 and about five weeks ago I called the VA Audiology Dept. in OKC to just request new domes (the piece that actually goes in your ear) because mine were pretty much worn out from wearing and cleaning and when the gal pulled me up on her computer she informed me that the VA supplies new hearing aids every four years and that I was 15 months past do and without even asking just went ahead and scheduled me for a hearing test five days ago on Monday the 5th.

The hearing test Monday showed that my hearing had deteriorated / changed somewhat and my new hearing aids should arrive at the OKC VA in 4 to 6 weeks and at that time I'll be notified to come in to have them fitted.

While I don't use the VA for day to day routine medical care while I was going through the disability rating process the few times I went to the VA in OKC I had a positive experience each time......from start to finish my 70% disability rating took right at six months.

I venture to say I'll be buying some less than $200 ones off the net..
Tried that not worth the time it takes to order and return. Not only didn't they fit my ears they amplified everything and had the same hearing issues only louder. Also tended to feed back and scream in your ear. Ones I tried were more like $500.00 thinking if I spend a little more I might get something usable.. Wrong...

IIRC, the "cut-off date" was some time in 2003. That date was when it either became law or was a bureaucratic rule change that stated you could not sign up for the VA medical benefits(maybe other benefits as well?) beyond ten years after your honorable discharge.

I have hearing loss from Army and later Air Force service and have hearing aids provided by VA. I took my 90 something Father to OKC VA and got him hearing aids due to his WWII and Korean service. VA folks said there is no time line or cutoff to apply for compensation.. I have heard that you almost have to go either to American Legion, VFW or Oklahoma Dept of Veterans Affairs service officers to have them be your advocate with the VA. My dad and I both had a OK Dept of Veterans Affairs folks assist with and submit paperwork... All organizations above have internet resources to find local service officers for help. My dad and I both have had very good experiences with OKC VA folks once we got approved. Good Luck....

Not sure about cut off dates as I was discharged in 1957 and never contacted the VA until 2011 when I stopped by the VA clinic in Jay to ask about a ID card to get the Lowe’s/Home Depot discounts. They copied my DD 214 and mailed the card. And because my service was during the Korean conflict they said I was also eligible for medical benefits. Since then I’ve received hearing aids, glasses, prescriptions and many visits to local specialists through the community care veterans choice program.

After spending some time on the VA web site and reading this thread discovered I was filling out the wrong form. I thought I had to apply for medical bennies before I applied for the hearing loss. Now I know one needs to go directly to the 21-526 as Hangfire stated above. Looks like I need to get a hearing test from some place to prove my hearing loss. Then I can finish filling out the form.
